Movie Collectibles

My great aunt Ida has one of the best collections of movie collectibles you could ever hope to see you. Nonetheless, it is not all exactly public viewing material. As a matter of fact, some of her golden age movie figurines are downright offensive to anyone with good taste. She is a very progressive person and not in the least bit racist, but she holds on to them anyway. For her, it is not all about just getting movie collectibles that she likes. The important thing, as far as she’s concerned, is finding, treasuring, and preserving the history of motion pictures.

Different people start getting movie collectibles for different reasons. For some people, it is all about simply treasuring movies that they like. A lot of people get movie posters from their favorite childhood movies, for example, or from the art flicks they liked to watch in college. For these people, authenticity is not usually the biggest thing. A lot of them will get collectible movie memorabilia that is actually remade. It makes for much cheaper collectibles which are easier to get a hold of, and it serves the same decorative purpose for them.

For other people, it is all about having something old and precious. The movie collectibles they get help them feel like they’re part of something before their time. It is all about nostalgia for them. Through their movie memorabilia collections, they can relive something which they never got to experience the first time. They can be there on the screen with the greats, in front of the adoring eyes of millions.

Neither of these reasons, however, is what drives my aunt. For her, movie collectibles are about history. She is somewhat of an artist herself, and has even been involved in making a few movies in her time. She has also worked as an actress, successfully supporting herself at it for several years. Her passion, however, has always been scholarships. For her, keeping all of the historic artifacts is a way to keep track of what has already happened and record it for posterity. Who knows what will happen to her movie collectibles when she is gone.

All we know is that someone will have them after that, and the collection will remain intact for decades to come. Sometimes, just saving something is worth it. After all, the more we know about our rich culture past, the more we can get out of our future ” don’t you agree?
