Using The “Rule Of The Rug” In Your Rec Room
How can you unwind in a room that is cluttered, crowded and unattractively arranged? To make matters worse, this room is supposed to be the fun, relaxing part of your house. Yes, I’m talking about the recreation room that can be more than just a place where you put your TV and sound system. It is supposed to be a pleasurable room to hang out with friends and family.
Most rec rooms are limited in space. Making do with what you have should not be enough. Changing your mentality to making the most of what you have leads to a more spacious looking room that is not awkward or cluttered to be at. And as a general life perspective, can help you achieve contentment in life, but that of course is a different article. Rearrange the furniture where they fit best. Position the TV or the entertainment set against the smallest wall so it won’t eat too much space. Move the furniture – the couch, coffee table and chairs close toward the TV. The viewing area may look smaller but the space that has been opened up will make the room look bigger. Wouldn’t watching horror flicks be more exciting with a closer gap between you and the screen?
Next, eliminate other furnishings. Take out the items you don’t use on a regular basis. Many people stash things away into the rec room until they find a new home for them. Don’t make this mistake or you will soon have a junk room that can’t function for your family. After you remove the unnecessary furniture, you should have some floor space open.
The more space you have in the rec room, the more you can add fun decors and activities, particularly for your kids. Divide the area into different sections where your kids can express their creativity and play at the same time. In this case, you can double the entertainment area to a playroom for your children. Have one area tagged as the girl’s playroom where your daughter can have a dollhouse, dolls and other stuffed toys. The other area is a boy’s playroom for your son’s train tracks, remote controlled cars and Legos. Allot a space as the reading area where they can place their books and other art materials.
Place a comfy bean bag and a table and chairs set to complete the play areas. Add a soft area rug with throw pillows for a snugger feel. Your children can lie comfortably while watching their cartoons or while taking a breather from playing (or fighting).
The “rule of the rug” helps keep things organized. Through this rule you keep your rec room from becoming a wreck again. Everyone has space to be comfortable and there will be no more kids in front of the TV. Without the use of area rugs, this does not work as well. The presence of the rugs gives separation to the various play areas within the room. Make sure you also include a soft rug in front of the TV, so your children can sit and watch a movie comfortably. As you use rugs to create zones in your room, you will soon enjoy an organized place where your family can spend time together.
Lucky for you rug decorating has been made so much easier with these pink shaggy rugs.
