The term business analysis refers to the discipline of identifying needs within a business, and determining the appropriate solution.

The term business analysis refers to the discipline of identifying needs within a business, and determining the appropriate solution.

These solutions may include changes in the organization itself, strategic development or development of new policies. The person who takes on the responsibility of business analysis is called a business analyst.

When the time inevitably comes for some sort of change, the business analyst has several techniques at his disposal. Precisely which techniques are used will depend on the nature of the problem, and the scope of the solution. Here are five that are used successfully by business analysts to help solve an array of different problems.

MOST

The MOST technique is an internal analysis. It contains four attributes that are defined by the business analyst to ensure the project you are working on is aligned and on track. These attributes are as follows:

Mission (where the business intends to go) Objectives (the key goals that will help achieve mission) Strategies (the different options for moving forward) Tactics (how the different strategies are put into action)

PESTLE

The PESTLE technique is an external analysis designed to examine the many different external elements affecting a business and its operations. It includes six attributes:

Political (Current and future political influences) Economic (The local, national and world economy impact) Sociological (Different ways society can affect an organization) Technological (The effect of new and emerging technology) Legal (The effect of national and world legislation) Environmental (Local, national and world environmental issues)

CATWOE

CATWOE is a technique used to encourage critical thinking about what the business is trying to achieve. There are six different elements included in this technique: Customers (who benefits from the highest level business process and how does the issue affect them?) Actors (who is involved in the situation? Who is implementing solutions? What will impact their success?) Transformation Process (what processes or systems are affected by the issue?) World View (what is the big picture and what are the wider impacts of the issue?) Owner (who owns the process or situation being investigated and what is their role in the solution?) Environmental Constraints (what are the limitations that will impact the solution and its success?)

SWOT

A SWOT analysis is used to give a more complete overview of both internal and external factors affecting a business. There are four attributes to SWOT:

Strengths (examine advantages and what is done well within the company) Weaknesses (examine the disadvantages and areas that need improvement) Opportunities (examine opportunities for improvement in all areas, including market share) Threats (examine the obstacles the business faces in accomplishing their goals)

FIVE WHY’S

The Five Why’s technique is used to help get to the root of any given problem within the business intelligence. It is a question asking method to examine the cause and effect of a particular situation.

You will start with a problem, such as “my car won’t start,” then ask a succession of why questions until the root of the problem is uncovered and a solution is evident.

Business Analysis can be a complex and intricate process. Within this broad spectrum lie several sub-disciplines, roles and even more techniques.

All businesses encounter situations and problems that need attention to help keep them moving forward. With a skilled business analyst employing the right techniques, a solution won’t be far behind.

Market leader in providing a new generation of predictive, business analytics software and services that create true business intelligence. Offering masterful tools in financial management, information analysis, and collaborating business statistics.

Branding is perhaps the most important facet of any business–beyond product, distribution, pricing, or location. A company’s brand is its definition in the world, the name that identifies it to itself and the marketplace.

Branding is perhaps the most important facet of any business–beyond product, distribution, pricing, or location. A company’s brand is its definition in the world, the name that identifies it to itself and the marketplace.

A model may be beautiful, but without a name, she’s just “that girl in that picture.” Where would Norma Jean be without Marilyn Monroe, or who would imagine Coca-Cola as just a soft-drink manufacturer?

A brand provides a concrete descriptor to customers and competitors alike, a name for a product or service to distinguish it from anything else.

Bob may run a hobby shop, but trying to advertise as “The hobby shop a guy named Bob runs down the street a ways” is financial suicide. Each customer will have to describe the shop, who Bob is, and what the shop does every time someone asks about it.

This makes the process of recommending a good hobby shop too much work for the average customer, and far too much work for a user looking for hobby shops on the Internet. A customer looking up Bob’s hobby shop will have an easier time of it if he or she knows to refer to it as “Bob’s House of Hobbies,” and the customer can then refer others to Bob’s hobby shop by name, increasing the potential advertising exponentially.

Developing a brand involves more than just picking a catchy name and placing an ad in the newspaper–a brand is more than a unique string of letters denoting a particular product; a successful brand is a mnemonic trigger that makes a consumer feel a certain way when the brand is thought of.

For those who drink cola-flavored soft drinks, which is more appealing on a hot day: a cold cola soda, or an ice-cold Coke? Coca-Cola has spent 100 years developing their particular brand of cola-flavored soda as a refreshing beverage and a seminal representation of a market segment. Coca-Cola has used a combination of direct marketing, give-away techniques, and multi-product cross-branding to achieve maximum brand recognition and visibility in not only its immediately competitive market, but in markets as diverse as Coca-Cola branded race cars and house wares.

Brand loyalty is an integral part of building a brand, as consumers usually have a choice of products in the same market segment, and so a successful company will come up with a way to keep consumers re-buying their product or coming back to their location rather than going to a competitor.

These brand loyalty-building efforts may come in the form of coupons, incentives such as many grocery chains’ technique of “grocery discount cards” or “loss leaders,” meant to draw consumers into the store, where they will hopefully buy products along with the discounted fare at a higher profit ratio. In exchange for these discounts and grocery cards, many companies collect information about buying habits and average spending amounts, the better to tailor advertisements and better-focus future promotional efforts.

Once a consumer is hooked, brand loyalty tends to result in higher sales volume, as well as loyal customers being less sensitive to price changes of their favorite brands (within reason, of course), as well as less sensitive to competitors’ incentives. Studies have shown that it takes 5 times as much money to gain a customer as it does to retain one. That’s 5 times as much money as could have been spent on other things.

A brand is who your company is, and what it is selling–it is as important as naming a baby, and should require the same amount of effort to develop it, but if done well, can mature into a successful and profitable adult.

For your marketing to be truly effective, you should consider using multiple media and a number of touches.

by Michael Fleischner

If you’re looking to succeed with a basic marketing plan, then you’ll need to focus on some core elements of a plan that targets the right audience and produces a result. For your marketing to be truly effective, you should consider using multiple media and a number of touches.

There is so much competition today that the messages you use need to be incredibly focused. The effectiveness of any campaign is directly correlated to the quality of your list and the effectiveness of your offer.

After years of trial and error, I have found that marketing results are relatively consistent when you apply the same techniques. These techniques apply to any industry and any type of campaign you may be running. Consider building your marketing campaign based on the following strategies:

Set specific goals. Before you begin, think about the specific goals you wish to achieve. Many marketers gravitate towards conversion but you need to define what that means for you and your business. Some individuals are simply looking for a sale, others a lead or download. Before you begin, identify what action you want respondents to take and how you’re going to measure it.

Segment your market carefully. Do not try to market to everyone. Choose a specific segment and focus your energies there. If you do, your campaign will be more successful. Considering the specific audience you are looking to attract and focusing on them, you can increase your chances of success tremendously. Review your current customer and find others like them if you wish to create a positive return on investment.

Select a few key messages points. What are the messages that resonate with your audience segment? There may be some key message points you have when describing your product or service. If so, use them to create a baseline and try to improve in later campaigns. You need to talk to your prospects in the language that resonates with them if you are going to grab their attention and gain their trust.

Test your offers. The only way to run a successful marketing campaign is by testing various offers. Your offer is an essential component for driving results. Your best bet is to test multiple offers simultaneously by splitting your list or testing offers. Once you find and offer that works, try to beat its results during the next campaign.

Leverage an integrated marketing approach. Use more than one type of media if you wish to enhance your results. Do not settle for a single email, post card, or advertisement. Rather, discover the media that your segment uses to get their information and buy their products or services. This can help you determine the best way to reach them. Once you develop a campaign, utilize as many of these media types to convey your message and offer.

I have found that using these techniques are paramount to producing a favorable return on your marketing investment. In addition be mindful of campaign timing. Even if all of the above criteria are met, your campaign may still fall flat if you have not exposed your audience to the right message at the right time.

Consider each of these steps before creating your next marketing campaign in print or online. Your marketing is only going to be successful when you set specific goals, segment your market appropriately, use effective messaging, and create a compelling offer. Experiment with different media to get your message across and deliver a winning marketing campaign.

Business plan is a very imperative to any business since it allows you to set the goals that you aim to attain. It helps in giving you as a businessperson motivation to work towards the business goals and how to solve challenges in case they arise. The plan may also include the background of your business and the people who have been in support of reaching the goals you have set in the plans. The main focal point here is the financial goal or objective that you intend to achieve. The plan acts as business guide for those who want to go into any form of online money making business.

What it contains: The plans help you to make important decisions about your business therefore there are no set information that is included. Goals that you set out to achieve and the people that your business is targeting will determine the information that you have in your plan. When you are preparing one make sure that you get the adequate material helpful to set the necessary goals. Make use of books, consultants, the Internet and mentors who have been in the business for a while.

Include the clear process that your business will follow and the persons whose help will be needed for the success of the venture. Indicate clearly the various costs to be incurred in running the business. Correct estimates should be given to give a clear picture of what is to be expected. A lot of businesses get into trouble due to cost overruns resulting from poor strategizing.

The Presentation: There are various forms of presentation that you can use. These include:

-Elevator pitch. In this plan, a summary of the whole document is given so as to get the attention of the stakeholders and clients who you aim at.

-It can be an oral presentation where you have a slide show and speech so that a discussion starts among those who have a stake in your business.

-Another format of a plan for a business can be a written presentation that has all the necessary details.

-Internal operation plan illustrates all the facts of the procedures that those in stake will follow in running the trade. This type of plan is not as essential to those who do not take part in the decision-making processes like clients.

While you intend to work from home, it is recommended that you take time to prepare your business plan. This will make sure all the legal responsibilities that an investor may have are put into place before putting in money for the venture.
