When considering the size of any stabling the main criteria to consider is that the horse should be able to stand up and turn around without any difficulty, and lie down and roll easily and without risk of injury.

With that in mind it is equally important that adequate consideration is given to the type of horse to be stabled. That is the height of him, the length and the build.

Other factors such as the individual’s temperament and disposition, the duration of confinement, and other internal environmental factors such as the air flow, drainage and frequency of waste clearance.

The British Horse Society recommends a minimum stable size of 3.6m x 3.6m for horses, and preferably 4.2m x 3.6m for larger breeds.

For ponies the recommended minimum dimensions should be 3.0m x 3.0m and 3.0m x 3.6m for larger ponies. When considering the height of your stables, ideally you should be looking at a height between 2.7m and 3.3m.

Always ensure that the timber treatments used are animal friendly and no tanalised timber is used in the construction.

Field Shelters

All horses and ponies kept at grass require an adequate and effective mobile field shelters. They not only require protection from the cold, wet and windy winter weather, but they also require shelter during the summer to provide shade and protection from flies.

When considering what size horse stables you will need for your horse, size and temperament are important considerations here also.

A small pony will only require a 3.0x 3.6m shelter. Whereas larger horse would ideally require a 4.5m x 3.6m shelter as a minimum size to ensure a comfortable safe environment.

When two or more horses are sharing a field and shelter, I always feel it pays to have at least a 7.2m x 3.6m shelter that has two openings built into the front elevation with both openings being 2.1m wide.

By having a shelter with two openings with horses sharing that shelter and a more dominant horse is amongst that group, you may find, firstly a more timid horse will not be trapped inside the shelter as he can escape with ease and by the same token the more timid horse will not be kept from entering the shelter by that more dominant horse.

Consider having an overhang on the front of your shelter as not only is it more attractive but it will give that extra bit of weather protection. I have seen rain blowing across many a field almost horizontally on occasions, as I am sure you have too. So, as you can imagine that bit of overhang to the front elevation of your shelter will make all the difference to your horses.

It’s a common sense approach as to all things that is important, ensure your horse is comfortable and happy and I can guarantee you will be also.

Dog mange is one of the most miserable afflictions that can strike your dog. It’s a contagious and persistently itchy skin disease brought on by parasitic mites burrowing under the skin. It must be treated as soon as you detect the symptoms. Otherwise the mange only gets worse.

The symptoms of dog mange include continuous itching, hair loss, dry and thickened skin with crusty scales, dry and wrinkled skin, unpleasantly strong skin odor, and blisters and sores.

It’s difficult to spot mange from the itching alone because dogs generally itch and scratch quite a bit. However, if you see them scratching too hard and more than usual, check them for mange. Keep an eye on the hair loss because this is a very common symptom. In addition to the thin hair, if your dog’s skin is covered in sores and red blisters, he might have mange.

There are different home remedies that you can use to give your dog some relief from these mange symptoms.

First of all, bathe your dog. Even though he may have mange already, you can help prevent secondary infections just through keeping your dog clean. When you bathe him, it removes the dead and flaky skin. Give him some herbal supplements such as Echinacea, araginogalactans, and astragalus to strengthen the immune system of your dog.

You can also apply topical remedies. Such things as aloe vera, vitamin E, or tea tree oil can be applied directly to the affected areas. These will provide symptomatic relief. Be careful to only choose remedies approved for topical application as some remedies can be toxic.

As it’s the mites living under the dog’s skin that cause mange, killing the mites is the best way to treat this disease. This can be done by applying petroleum jelly several times a day to the affected areas. The mites will be suffocated by this.

Be sure to treat all of your pets because if your dog has mange and hangs out with your other pets, chances are, they’ve developed it as well. Dog mange can be serious and even deadly in extreme cases. Taking immediate action is the best thing you can do as soon as you notice your dog having symptoms.

Summary

Dog mange is a very serious condition caused by mites living under the skin and can be successfully treated with the use of home remedies.

One of the most common viral diseases in dogs is the Parvovirus. The word Parvo is Latin for small, and only a few grams of feces can contain upwards of millions of virus particles. Ever since the late 1970′s, this virus has wreaked havoc on dogs the world over, and caused many unforeseen deaths as it can be transmitted by direct, or even indirect, contact with dog vomit or feces from another infected dog.

It is extremely important to get your dog vaccinated for Parvovirus so that you can be assured your dog will live a long healthy life with you.

While the symptoms of the Parvovirus may take 7 to 10 days before they become noticeable, any dog owner that is paying attention will notice the loss of appetite and lack of energy in the early stages. Once you notice this, you should take your dog in to have it checked out. If you wait to see if your dog gets better, there is a good chance that this slight change will take a drastic turn and cause your pet severe issues like massive dehydration and malnutrition.

After the initial symptoms of appetite and energy are seen, your dog will start to display a wider range of symptoms including a high fever, vomiting, and bloody diarrhea. If your dog is showing these signs, you need immediate medical attention as soon as possible.

While the Parvovirus can infect adult dogs, it is more commonly found in small puppies as their immune system has not reached full ability to fight infections off yet. Puppies can pick this virus up easily if their mother has the virus while they are being born. If this is the case, there is little you can do to save the puppy unless it can make it through the first few weeks of its life and get vaccinated.

While there is no cure once your dog catches the Parvovirus, the regiment usually consists of keeping your dog hydrated and maintaining its body temperature. Therefore, it is extremely important to make sure your dog is vaccinated for the Parvovirus before there is any chance that it could catch it.

Nothing is worse than watching your dog suffer, especially from something that is so easily prevented from a few vaccinations by your vet. You should make sure that your dog is caught up on all of its shots and keep an eye out for any symptoms.

The most common aspect of lymphoma in dogs presents itself as lumps or swollen lymph nodes on the back, armpits, and neck. In the early stages, there is no pain involved, but that can change almost overnight if action isn’t taken as soon as these lumps are noticed.

There are, however, a few aspects that go almost unnoticed until it’s too late; these symptoms include vomiting, lethargy, and loss of appetite among others. Some are easily noticed while others are found accidentally.

For the most part, chemotherapy is one of the best actions to take in order to treat your dog with canine lymphoma. This will also help over 80 percent of dogs with lymphoma go into remission for at least 12 months. Side effects are usually rare, and seen in less than 10 percent of dogs undergoing this treatment. These side effects can include vomiting, nausea, and hair loss. There are two different kinds of chemo treatment; single and multi-agent. Single agent chemo is less toxic, and doesn’t cost as much but remission is usually shorter, around 7 months the first time.

If chemotherapy isn’t something that you want, or can afford to put your dog through, there is another option; prednisone therapy.

Prednisone therapy is much easier on your dog and the short term benefits greatly outweigh that of chemotherapy. While the remission rate is lower than chemo, approximately 2 to 3 months, the dog will have a more comfortable life while undergoing the prednisone treatment. You should, however, not use prednisone before undertaking chemotherapy as this will reduce the effectiveness of the chemo and put your dog under unneeded pain and agony.

If you are looking for the best possible outcome for your dog, then stem cell replacement is probably the best possible solution. The effects are strikingly significant and raise your dog’s survival rate tremendously. The stem cells are taken from the bone marrow of your dog where there is no cancer found and replaced after it has gone through total radiation treatment. While this is extremely effective, it is also extremely expensive and might be something you will have to consider long and hard before attempting.

Your vet will explain the best possible treatment for your dog when it comes to canine lymphoma and explain all the procedures that you can try. It’s up to you to pick the one you want, though.

One thing that a dog owner never wants to hear is that their dog is suffering from canine lymphoma. Just about any dog can contract canine lymphoma, and making sure they stay healthy is the best thing you can do to prevent this from happening.

Dogs are touted as being man’s best friend, and you will be hard-pressed to find a more loyal and lovable animal to call your pet than a dog. With this love and loyalty, there are a few things that you have to do to show your dog how much you care about them as well. Feeding, watering, and taking out for walks are but a few things that you need to do to show your dog this love and companionship. Another thing is making sure they are healthy by taking them to the vet.

One thing that a dog owner never wants to hear is that their dog is suffering from canine lymphoma. This cancer was first reported in the 1980′s and was initially thought to affect only a certain amount of cross bred canines. While most cases have been attributed to the genetic mistakes in some breeds, just about any dog can contract canine lymphoma, and making sure they stay healthy is the best thing you can do to prevent this from happening. The life expectancy of a dog with lymphoma is between 9 and 12 months.

While the life expectancy isn’t that great, there are ways that you can put the cancer into remission and your dog can then enjoy many more years of life. Using a combination of chemotherapy, immune boosting, and radiation with a healthy high protein diet can help boost your dog’s ability to have its cancer go into remission.

While making these changes are still fairly difficult on your dog, if the cancer does go into remission you will both feel much better about making these changes. Remission for canine lymphoma is fairly high, so taking steps as soon as possible will help you the most.

If you start to notice that your dog is losing its appetite, vomiting, and is getting lumps on its abdomen neck or armpits, you should take it to the vet as soon as possible. These are the places that lymphoma is going to hit first, and if you don’t take action the cancerous tumors will start to spread through its vital organs. Once they hit the vital organs, there is only a few months left before your dog will go through organ failure and pass away. Take the time to visit your vet every year and have tests performed to see if your dog might have, or could contract canine lymphoma.

Keeping one’s precious dog in a safe environment it is important that the owner know where they are at all times. In response to the desire of many dog owners to have some way to keep track of their animal or animals at all times the gps dog collar was contrived. This collar causes no pain or harm to the animal. It looks and feels like any ordinary collar one finds on the market. It has batteries in the collar which need to be replaced as needed.

Built on the same concept as the GPS tracking device, found in many automobiles, it is possible to avoid having one’s pet lost or stolen. With a simple unit built into the collar it is possible to keep track of them with a control device called a receiver. These collars require batteries, which must be replaced as they lose power. There is a wide range of different types of receivers available depending on the owner’s desires.

The GPS receiver is a marvel of today’s science achievements. Allowing a dog owner to know not only the location, but the direction and speed of movement of the animal gives the owner knowledge that they are safe. This brings relief of mind and eliminates the worry that is sometimes experienced when exercising one’s dog.

Hunting in the woods is a wonderful experience enjoyed by many people. However, through the years the hunter has suffered from his or her dogs disappearing into the underbrush in search of some unknown quarry. There is always the fear that they may become lost and not return. In this case there is no better assurance of one’s animal’s safety than the GPS collar and receiver.

The range of receivers that are available on the market is amazing. Whether the size of a key chain or a large, color coordinated model, they all relay information necessary to assure that one’s pet is safe. It is also possible to contract with a company who has a specialist to assist, if necessary, in locating the animal.

The personal computer screen, text or e-mail are GPS receivers which are especially effective for one who wishes to allow their dog to be outside while they remain in the home or office. Using this device is especially useful as it gives a bigger over-all picture of where the animal is located. With this method, the owner would be alerted if the dog was getting in a dangerous position, such as a busy highway.

With the wide range of gps dog collars and the receiving units that are on the market today there is something for everyone. Keeping the animal from harm and being sure they are not in a position to be cause someone else harm is the owner’s responsibility. Using a GPS unit available today to keep track of one’s animal shows concern and love for an important family member.

Not all GPS Dog Collar . Some cost more and don’t function well indoors. Find out why Love My Pets GPS gps pet tracker collars are safer and better.

Speak about pets and dogs come across as the most obvious alternative. But, in case you are not really a dog lover, then parrots can make for an excellent option as pets. They are fun, vibrant and simple to keep. In case you are considering getting home a parrot as a pet, then you’ve several choices. There are several different kinds of parrots which you can choose from to bring home as a companion.

One of the most common kinds of parrots is the Amazon parrots. This parrot species comes in medium to large size type. Typically, Amazon parrots are green in color. However, they have tiny red and yellow patches on their wings, tail and even head. In case you want a quieter parrot, then this kinds isn’t the best preference as they have a loud voice.

Macaws too make to the list of well-known parrot types. This chirpy and fun loving specie is the largest of all the parrot kinds available. They may help take aside all your troubles with their antics, helping you reduce anxiety right away. You may train them to talk and you’ll not need to look elsewhere for a chit chat session. If you keep this specie as pet, attempt to be more cautious about the household items as the powerful beak of macaw could trigger harm to them.

Yet another well-known parrot specie is parakeet. This parrot specie is the quietest of all and has same color palette as that of leaves. It’s the safest bet for people who are averse to noise. However, having this parrot specie around will never let you feel bored. Despite being a quite type, parakeets are very chirpy, active and amiable. Their social nature could compel you to engage with them again and again.

If looks is the prime criteria for you in selection of parrots as pet, Conures are definitely the ideal pick for you. Conures are native of South Africa and are regarded to be very active and joyful specie. This parrot specie is popular for its beauty and vibrancy. This 1 is available in a unusual color combination comprising of vivid orange and glittering yellow. With such atypical multi-colored appearance, this one is definitely the most visually enticing and alluring of all parrot kinds.

Loverbirds is yet an additional parrot kinds that’s native to Africa. This parrot species is kept as pairs. Contrary to other styles of parrots, this one does not gel well with human beings. As a matter of fact, it does not gel well with other parrot species either. They also make sounds at high pitches which may be quite irritating. So, make sure that you consider well ahead of choosing for them as your pet.

So, it’s amply apparent that parrots can prove to be ideal pets. Select any of the species as per your liking and you are certain to enjoy the company of the new member of your family.

Dogs can become overweight in the same way people do. Unfortunately, if canine obesity is left untreated, it can eventually lead to - or exacerbate - a number of health issues.

Dogs can become overweight in the same way people do. Unfortunately, if canine obesity is left untreated, it can eventually lead to – or exacerbate – a number of health issues. For example, joints may deteriorate, especially if arthritis was already a problem. Digestive issues may worsen. Excess pressure might build around the canine’s heart and lungs.

There are many contributing factors, but most of them can be traced to one root cause: owners. With a few exceptions, a dog’s owner is ultimately responsible for the weight his pooch gains. Below, we’ll take a look at some of the most common reasons for the extra pounds.

Too Much Food

Every pooch is different. Some are fussy about the foods given them and others will eat everything they see. Some can self-regulate their food intake while others will refuse to stop eating until their bowl is clean. This is the reason it’s important for owners to know their dogs’ tendencies, and build their meal plans around them.

If you’re planning to make food freely available to your pooch (i.e. he has free access to it), make sure he will self-regulate his intake. Otherwise, he will likely eat too much, a sure path toward obesity.

Lack Of Exercise

Some canines are active while others lead sedentary lives. Like people, an inactive dog is more likely to have a slower metabolism. This, in itself, is fine as long he eats an appropriate amount of food consistent with his daily caloric burn rate. Unfortunately, many owners allow their dogs to eat more than necessary despite their lack of activity. Making matters worse, an inactive pooch is likely to eat out of simple boredom.

Your canine needs a regular outlet for exercise. Take him for walks twice each day and modify his diet to provide the calories he needs – and little more.

Breed Susceptibility

Some breeds are predisposed to gaining extra weight. If you own a Labrador Retriever, Collie, or Beagle, pay attention to the amount of food he eats and make sure he receives plenty of exercise. If you own a Standard Poodle (a breed that rarely copes with obesity), it’s less an issue.

Growing Older

Here too, dogs are similar to people. As they grow older, their metabolism slows. This means they require fewer calories each day. The problem is, their learned eating habits drive them to consume more food than necessary given their activity level. Unless owners proactively reduce the size of their dogs’ meals, their canines risk gaining weight.

It’s also worth noting that old canines rarely deal with obesity. This may be due to their declining appetites during their last few years.

Spayed Or Neutered

A dog that has been spayed or neutered is more susceptible to gaining weight than one that is intact. This is due to a decline in metabolism. The canine requires fewer calories each day, which means he is more likely to gain weight if he continues to eat the same amount of food. This is rarely a problem as long as an owner reduces the size of the meals he provides his spayed or neutered pooch.

Stress And Related Issues

Environmental factors can also motivate a dog to eat too much, setting the stage for obesity. For example, stress is often a trigger. If the source of stress is removed, it is seldom an issue. However, in the event the source remains (e.g. a newborn is brought into the home), it can drive the canine to seek food he does not need.

Ultimately, owners are responsible for helping their dogs maintain a healthy weight. This comes from being vigilant over their food intake and providing an outlet for exercise. The benefit for owners is that a healthy dog will make a more pleasant, engaging companion.

Every dog owner will need few basic dog supplies such as food bowl, health products, collar etc. All this does cost money. But now you don’t need to incur any further huge monthly expenses towards dog supplies. Here are some tips on how to find cheap dog supplies.

1) Online pet store:

Instead of relying on your local pet store for your dog supplies, which will vary in cost from store to store, you should opt for shopping through online sources so that you can easily get discount dog supplies.

2) Coupon sites:

Well, you can also look out for websites that specialized in coupons of all sorts. These types of websites deal with coupons offered from various pet websites. Besides getting discount coupons for your dog supplies, the website also alerts the visitor about future great sales through email. Above all, such websites also offers money saving coupons for groceries and retail goods. Hence, you can get access to such websites who can supply you with cheap dog supplies as well as cheap groceries for you.

3) Auction site:

There are various auction sites which can be considered as a great place to get great deals with regard to dog supplies. Participating in an auction is free, easy and when you win one, you will save a lot of money.

4) Comparison shopping sites:

These days there are many comparison shopping sites that allow you to compare various deals. You can visit such a site and compare the rates of various company products relating to dog supplies, without having to visit several sites. All the prices of various brands can be got on a single website and thus save your shopping time. By this way you can decide which product is economical to purchase. This is how you save money while doing comparison shopping.

Your local pet super store may give you the best price on dog supplies, only if you buy in bulk. However, if you want to make purchases in less quantity, it is better to opt for online sites where you can get various discounts for your dog supplies. When you have a dog, it becomes necessary to look after its needs, which includes the type of food and vitamins. Since not all dogs have the same nutritional requirements, you have to consult your doctor and know the exact type of diet that is recommended for your dog.

Hence, you should decide to shop only after you have consulted your concerned doctor.
It is preferable to buy food stuff that are know and are of tested brands.
Natural dog food is the best choice for your pet dog. Dog owners usually like to feed their pet dog with dry dog food. However, before you decide to purchase a particular brand of dog food, check the ingredients listed on the pack.

Natural dog food is the best choice for your pet dog. Dog owners usually like to feed their pet dog with dry dog food. However, before you decide to purchase a particular brand of dog food, check the ingredients listed on the pack.

Not all dog food brands use high quality natural ingredients. So, carefully select your dog food stuff. There are certain guidelines that you need to follow while deciding to purchase natural dog food. The tips are as follows:

1) Avoid Preservative and artificial colors:

Usually natural dog food does not contain any preservative, artificial colors and flavors. If such food components are consumed, it will spoil the dog’s health, in the long run. Also, avoid dog food that contains “Chemical additives”.

2) Check the color of the food stuff:

Dog food that consist of natural ingredients, are usually of soft earth tones types. If the food stuff is in red or green in color, it means that some type of additives are being used. This should be avoided.

3) Check the type of meat used:

The right way of feeding your dog is with raw dog food. It is considered to me the healthiest type of food. The right set of dog food will usually consist of 40% meat, 30% fiber and 30% starch. You can also include some source of vegetable and starch along with the uncooked meat that you have decided to give to your dog.

Never feed your dog with generic fats or proteins like “animal fat” or meat meal. You can look for named sources such as chicken fat, beef fat or lamb meal. Food stuff that contains generic terms is usually of very poor quality food. Your dog’s over health depends upon the ingredients that your dog food contains. Hence, it is important to feed your dog with dog foods that contain the right ingredients. The list of ingredients that are mentioned on the dog food packet is listed in percentage form. The top most ingredients will have the highest percentage in terms of food content. So, be aware of each ingredient while you are purchasing the required dog food.

Your dog food should contain real meat or vegetables as the main ingredients. Foods that contain meat meal should be avoided. Meat meal may contain substances of chicken meat, fish meal and other types of meat meal. However, one cannot guarantee what part of the animal might be used as part of the dog food ingredients. Hence, it is better to stay away from dog food that contains meat meals as ingredients. You must also not select foods that contain chemicals as an ingredient. It is difficult to find commercial foods that do not have chemicals as preservatives or coloring. The best option is to go for natural dog food.

In order to find good quality dog food, you must do your own research. If you want your dog to remain healthy all the time, you must feed him natural and organic dog food. Avoid using meat meal. Start using only real foods that your dog will benefit from. Your top priority towards your dog should be to find an all natural dog food that is pure and contains organic mats and vegetables.

Heartworms are a parasitic worm infection that shows up most commonly in dogs, although some cats can catch it as well. Heartworms live inside your dog’s heart, lungs, and arteries and can cause an extreme amount of damage to those vital organs.

When you bring dogs into your lives you tend to find that life changes for the better. While you take them for walks, play with them, and care for them, you find that they are, in turn, taking care of you in a more spiritual way.

Since they love you so much, it’s only natural that you give them the love they deserve for putting up with you. The best way of showing them just how much you care about them is by taking measures to ensure their health.

The best way is to make sure that your dog is heartworm free.

Heartworms are a parasitic worm infection that shows up most commonly in dogs, although some cats can catch it and, on extremely rare occasions, a human can catch it as well. Heartworms live inside your dog’s heart, lungs, and arteries and, with a lifespan of six to seven months, can cause an extreme amount of damage to those vital organs.

Dogs catch this violent little worm infestation from mosquitos. When an infected mosquito bites a dog, these heartworm larvae are planted on the dog’s coat. The larvae then burrow their way into your dog’s skin and start to grow.

Some heartworms have been found to be up to a foot long and, once inside your dog, they will begin to reproduce, causing issues for the dog for many years, including circulation problems and a deep cough that the dog can’t shake off.

One of the biggest issues with heartworms is that they can live in your dog for a very long time before you are even aware of them. If you start to notice your dog losing its appetite, sever weight loss, no energy, deep breathing or coughing, there is a good possibility that your dog has heartworms.

The best thing you can do to help prevent your dog from contracting these foul parasites is to have him or her regularly checked by your vet. Most vets will do a heartworm test with a regular visit and you can purchase preventative heartworm pills that will help keep your dog from getting them in the first place.

You can also make sure that there’s no standing water around your house that will attract mosquitos. Doing all of this on a regular basis will almost guarantee that your dog doesn’t get infected with heartworms and keep him or her healthy for a very long time.

On HeartWormsInDogs.Net you can find articles about heartworms in dogs, symptoms of heartworms in dogs and heartworms in dogs natural remedies.

Just like humans, dogs can feel the adverse effects that cause hair issues. While these can include things like their natural environment, getting dandruff in the cold weather, or things like stress causing flaking skin or disease, there are things that you can do to check your lovable pet for mange.

Mange is usually found as a rash, sore spots, hair loss or all of those issues at the same time. While you should have your vet check to make sure that it is mange and not some other environmental issue, there are things that you can do to check for yourself.

There are two types of common mange that you should keep an eye out for.

The first is Sarcoptic mange, and usually starts with the head and ears. It will then spread to the tail and work its way under the front legs. The skin will look like it has small burns or red spots all over the affected area and can be treated with medication and shampoos. If you start to notice these issues on your dog, check with your vet to make sure it’s not a common allergy first. Then proceed with the shampoo to see if it helps any.

The second type of mange is Demodetic mange and is the result of mites most commonly found on puppies. These mites will attack the hair follicles and you will notice a rash and loss of hair. If this type of mange is not treated right away, the mites will cause it to grow faster as they continue to reproduce.

If they are left untreated, these mites can infect the whole of your dog’s body and cause it much unneeded and unwanted pain. On top of this, the constant scratching will cause an unpleasant musty odor and infection can set in.

Either case of mange is treatable with medications and anti-fungal shampoos. You might have to administer iodine as well to help clear up the infections. Mange is noncontagious so you don’t have to worry about any other dogs in the house catching it from one that is infected. You should also take into consideration what your dog’s life style is like, such as outdoor or indoor, and highly active or not. These will help determine how your dog has caught manage and some ways you can change things so that it doesn’t catch mange again in the future.

On MangeInDogs.Net you can find articles about mange, mange treatment methods and demodectic mange.

While Glaucoma is an extremely serious illness, it doesn’t usually happen in dogs too much. Most of the time blindness in dogs happens from an accident, although there are those moments when Glaucoma happens due to genetic issues.

When genetics are the cause, this is called primary Glaucoma. There are some breeds that are more genetically inclined to catch Glaucoma, but a dog can get it because of eye disease, cataracts, cancer, or even eye inflammation. When it is caused by any of these issues it will be considered secondary Glaucoma. If dogs get Glaucoma, they can go blind quite rapidly. Care should be given if you notice any of these issues.

Most of the time a dog will get Glaucoma in just one eye. The pressure comes from the aqueous humor fluid that is being built up constantly in the front part of the eye. When this happens the dog will eventually lose sight in that eye, but will adjust to seeing with the good eye. Because of this, it is difficult for the owner to realize the dog is having sight issues as they are still getting around quite well. This will also cause the dog pain, which they have no way of telling you about.

When a dog has been diagnosed with Glaucoma it becomes much harder to treat than if contracted by a human. Humans will take eye drops to help relieve the pressure whereas dogs have a hard time squeezing the bottle, so you have to do it for them. If you have never tried to give a dog eye drops before, it can be quite a difficult feat. Because of this, surgery will more than likely be required to release the pressure. Unfortunately, up to one third of dogs will have to have more than one surgery for their Glaucoma issues.

While Glaucoma in dogs is rarely detected before it’s too late, there are ways of catching it before it’s too serious. If you notice your dog favoring one eye, or see it constantly watering, you should check with your vet. If your vet catches the Glaucoma before it gets too serious, there is a good chance that your dog will only require one surgery. While your dog has no way of telling you that their eyes are bothering them, you have to be on your toes and check from time to time on your own.

A cat collar is important to use for your cat so everyone will know he or she has a family. There are so many stray cats running loose that mistaking yours for a stray is easily understandable. A collar will prevent that from happening.

The ID tag on a cat collar is very important. Cats are naturally independent and it is never a surprise when they wander out by themselves. If someone happens to come across them and things they are a stray, what will happen? Any number of things, not many of them good. An ID tag lets other people know that your cat has a home, and an owner who is likely worried about them. A collar with a tag can drastically reduce the chances of your kitty getting lost and stolen or in an accident.

There are several styles of cat collar out there today to please even the pickiest feline and its owner. Nylon styles are the most affordable and simple, and there are plenty of colors to choose from. A step above nylon is leather, which is a far more durable material.

Leather collars have been popular with both cat and dog owners for a long time, and for good reason. The last for years and are often durable enough to stay intact even after being chewed on or otherwise abused. It should be noted that chain collars are not recommended for cat, as they are not as hardy as dogs are.

Most retailers that carry pet supplies will have collars for cats. This includes pet stores, department stores, general retailers, and some online shops.

If there’s one thing a dog owner needs to be aware of, it’s roundworms. Roundworms are tiny worms that have a round body and usually grow from 3 to 5 inches in length. These worms live in your dog’s intestine and feed off of food that is partially undigested.

They do not attach themselves to the intestinal wall; rather they swim around in the partially digested food and their eggs end up in your dog’s stool. Although a few of those eggs will hatch before the dog expels them, and this will cause the roundworm population inside your dog to thrive.

There are a few ways that dogs can get roundworms. One way is from puppies that have mothers who had roundworms while they were pregnant or shortly after birth while they are still nursing. This can happen even if the mother hasn’t had an outbreak of roundworms in the recent past as some of the eggs may not have made it all the way out of your dog’s system.

If your dog ingests anything that has roundworm eggs in it, or an actual roundworm, it will more than likely become infected itself, or if your dog comes into contact with another animal that has roundworms.

The good thing about roundworms is that it’s fairly easy, if not a bit time consuming, to get rid of them. You can find dewormer medicine in both pill and liquid form that you can give to your dog. It will usually take more than one treatment to rid your dog of the worms and the directions usually have you retreating again after around 10 days to two weeks.

Take note that these wormers usually will not kill eggs or larvae, but will, instead, cripple the roundworm causing it to pass safely and quickly through your dog.

You should make sure that your dewormer medication is able to be handled by puppies if you find them infected. Some wormers aren’t supposed to be used on puppies or nursing mothers as they will have an adverse effect. If you’re in doubt, you should contact your local vet as they will have information on wormers that will be the most beneficial for you and your dog.

Keeping the dogs excrement picked up out of your yard will help in keeping your dog worm free as well. They can get re-infested just by relieving themselves next to excrement that is infected.

While having your dog throw up in front of you may cause you to be concerned, there is usually a reason that is common and natural for most dogs. Dogs will eat grass from time to time and this causes their stomachs to become upset, thus they will vomit. If your dog does this every once in a while, and there are only a handful of instances in a couple months, there is usually nothing to worry about.

Issues should start to concern you when this is happening more than once within a twenty four hour period.

When you notice that abnormal vomiting, or more than twice within twelve hours, is occurring you should seek the help of your vet. If you have recently changed over your dog’s diet to something different, such as buying a different brand of food because you didn’t have the money or the store was temporarily out of the brand you normally buy, then you should wait 24 hours and feed again. While your dog’s system can get stressed by such changes, after 24 hours you should be able to feed him or her and nothing adverse will happen. This is just a minor stomach issue due to different food.

If your dog is showing signs of abnormal vomiting, such as more than once in a few hours or persistently over a 24 hour period, you should immediately stop feeding your dog for at least 24 hours. This will give its digestion time to work the last meal out of the body. If you notice a strong odor in the vomit it could be caused by an intestinal obstruction and your vet should know immediately. If the vomit has undigested food in it, it could mean overeating, anxiety, or food poisoning.

If your dog hasn’t vomited within the 24 hours that you have taken them off food, you can then start them on a bland diet and see if they keep it down. While on this 24 hour fast you can give them water and ice cubes to help keep them hydrated. If they are vomiting after water or ice, take them to the vet immediately as there is a good chance that food poisoning or some other issue is involved that will require medical attention. The bland diet should consist of small portions of rice, sweet potatoes, or oatmeal and fully cooked poultry, lean pork or beef.

At a certain point, almost any dog lover has probably thought about adopting a puppy or a full grown dog. Some people do so because of the relatively low cost. Others choose this route because of the chance to give a dog a good home.

Of the many dogs that are available for adoption, most are mixed breed dogs. Only rarely will a pure bred dog be up for adoption. When it happens there is usually a special circumstance.

If you’re looking for a dog to be a companion and share your home and your heart, adopting is a wonderful way to find that special dog. The first place where many start their search is the local animal shelter. It’s a good place to start.

If you are looking for a dog at the animal shelter, it will probably to easier to find an adult dog than a puppy. There are just fewer puppies brought to animal shelters. When you adopt a dog from an animal shelter, there won’t be any health surprises. That’s because they will have been checked out by a veterinarian.

By adopting a dog from a shelter, you could save his life. There are far more animals available for adoption than could ever possibly be adopted out. The result for animals not adopted could be euthanasia.

Puppies are easier to find by looking for lawn signs or in your local newspaper. You could also have friends keep an eye out for you. Contact a vet’s office. Often their clients will post notices about dogs that are available for adoption.

Realize that “free” puppies are really not free. Most free puppies won’t have had all their shots, so a visit to the vet will be in order, to get all necessary shots as well as a checkup.

Although many people are unwilling to consider adopting an adult dog, these animals often make wonderful pets. Not all adult dogs turned over to the shelter are problems. Sometimes it can be a case of an owner’s situation changing so they are forced to give up their pet.

Before taking on an adult dog, try to get as much information as you can about his past circumstances. If you can’t get any info, this may be a red flag. But not always. Sometimes, the owner may no longer be able to take care of a pet or may have had to move to a place where pets aren’t allowed.

If you are thinking about getting a dog, why not consider adoption? There are so many puppies and adult dogs looking for a warm caring family. And really, how can you leave him there when he looks at you so longingly?

As a dog lover, Chris is always looking for ways to keep the family pet happy. A comfortable bed is a must. Check out his website heateddogbedreview.com/ for information about a heated dog bed to keep him warm and cozy inside and out, as well as other comfy beds like the cozy cave dog bed.

If you don’t live in the city and you have seen the mess that the world is becoming, you might have thought about raising your own chickens to lower your food bill a bit.

This is a great idea but there are a few things that you will have to consider before jumping in with both feet. Your chickens will need feed and a good place for them to roost. This place needs to be safe from predators that stalk the night, things like raccoons, foxes, opossums, and other animals that roam around looking for food in the area.

Before you start to build your chicken coop, you should think of how many chickens you are going to want to keep, and how much room you have in your yard or farm. You should also consider how much time you are able or willing to put into your chickens to help you determine how big this coop of yours is going to be. If you are planning on only spending a couple minutes a day to get a handful of eggs, then you can go pretty small without any hassles.

Otherwise, you are going to be putting a lot of work into it.

If you are renting or planning on moving in the future, you might want to go with a small coop that would only hold up to four chickens. This will give you the ability to move the chicken coop easily if you need to, and will only produce a handful of eggs; enough for a couple or small family to enjoy. If you are looking to hold more than a handful of chickens, you will want a larger coop and this will take a bit more time to build, but shouldn’t take too much money.

A larger coop is great if you have a large family or want to share your eggs with your neighbors. This type of coop won’t be moved easily so it’s best if you own your home and aren’t planning on moving anytime soon. You can build these coops with spare lumber that is lying around your property, only having to worry about buying chicken wire to enclose it and keep your chickens safe. You should make sure that your chickens have a nice area that they can roam around in as well as a roosting area that you can lock them up in at night.

On ChickenCoopsUsa.Com you can find chicken coop designs and easy to follow, step by step chicken coop plans.

Dog behavior problems commonly start off at a very young age. If not remedied, the circumstances can very easily get out of control. The key element to a happy coexistence with your family pet may be a few straightforward training sessions. On the other hand, if you really don’t learn to put an end to certain behaviors, your life together could be quite stressful.

There are many different types of training available for dog owners. From spray bottles and clickers to treats and training collars, you will find the options are many. If you are unsure of which method will work on your dog, consult the advice of a professional dog trainer. By thoroughly researching, you will be able to find a solution that is going to enhance how quickly your dog learns and put an end to the dog behavior problems.

When you have selected the technique you are going to make use of, you have to make your dog understand that their training is not an option. Even though you want to reward the dog for good behavior with treats and kind words, totally ignoring a dog’s bad behavior is not going to make them understand that they must behave well. Instead, be sure you learn the proper way to discipline your dog by using the right tone of voice.

You will need to make your dog’s training sessions fun for them but it needs to be required as well. Providing them the extra attention may be all that it takes. However, some dogs need and want more action in their training. Combine the training with the activities your dog enjoys, such as long walk or run, and you will find your dog is more willing to learn the right behaviors.

When dog behavior problems occur, they are generally dismissed. This can lead to the dog owner thinking there is no way their dog is ever going to behave and they often give up on the dog and some even end up in new homes. Instead of giving away your canine friend, learn how to put an end to their bad behavior. It may take some time to correct them, but once you do, you and your dog will be much happier

Dog-philes is a site dedicated to the inexperienced dog owner who wants to have the best life with their new companion. Learn to understand dog behavior and put at end to dog behavior problems at www.Dog-Philes.com

As a pet owner you need to make sure that you properly train your dog. Otherwise they may end up barking all the time for no reason and probably annoying the heck out of you and your neighbors. No matter what age your dog may be or how misbehaved they are, the most important thing is that you take the time to train them and make sure they are acting well.

If your dog is meant to be a guard dog, it should be able to bark at night so that it alerts you of the presence of unwelcome visitors, but it should not bark so much during the day when you don’t need noise. In addition, dogs should not bark or jump at your relatives and friends unless they are purposely playing with the dog. With training, your dog will bark at thieves and burglars, but will keep quiet when regular visitors come.

When giving training to your dog, you can make it easier for both you and the animal by getting a training tool to help you, such as an electric dog training collar. Ever since electric dog training collars were used by the average dog owner, they have managed to reduce the amount of needless barking on dogs by teaching them when it’s ok to bark and when it isn’t. Electric dog training collars are available in almost every pet store, but you can also purchase them from the comfort of your house through the Internet.

Electric dog training collars work by giving your dog a slight electrical shock when they bark. You do have the option of turning the collar on and off so you do not have to take the collar all the way off when you want them to be able to bark. These electric dog training collars are a great option if you are trying to train your dog.

Other Options

Of course if you are not okay with remote trainers, you may think they are too cruel, there are other options. For instance instead of electric dog training collars you could choose to use a milder version such as the ultrasonic dog training collar. Instead of an electrical shock the dog will simply hear a high-pitched noise that is going to stop them from barking.

Many dog owners prefer this collar over the electric dog training collar because they find it much less harsher than the electric collar. It’s up to you to decide which method to use, considering your time, the purpose of the training, and of course, your budget.

With training, your dog will be able to tell friend from foe. If you want the training to be more effective and take a shorter amount of time, consider electric dog training collars. It’s up to you to decide if remote trainers are cruel or effective for dog training.

If you’ve an aquarium at home, you might prefer to include some freshwater aquarium plants to make it look prettier. Nevertheless, while adding these plants will assist you beautify the tank significantly, you will need to take care of them to allow them to thrive. In case they are not looked after satisfactorily, they could very well die. These dead plants could also affect the fitness of your fish.

Keeping up fresh water aquarium plants is not an ordeal. You may in fact maintain both the plants and the aquarium via several easy ways too. The first and foremost thing which you need to do in this context would be to give a regular source of light. After all it is a known fact that light is a pre-requisite for the optimal growth of the plants.

Marine plants get the desired light they need directly from sunlight. However, your aquarium plants can not get the daylight straight as your aquarium is kept in the house. You will require artificial lighting for this purpose. Most tanks come with pre set lighting. There are a few tanks that have pre drilled holes for you to set up lighting. If you consider this would be too cumbersome, you can contemplate setting the aquarium near the window for the plant to get natural light.

Make sure that you inspect your aquarium plants on a frequent basis. Many a times, the roots come loose. This happens as the fishes are likely to loosen the plants from the soil. When the plants loose their roots, they’re bound to die. So, it is essential to check your plants on a every day basis to be certain that their roots do not come loose.

Because plants could take the beauty and look of the aquarium a notch higher, it doesn’t imply that you should overcrowd the aquarium with the same. Every plant calls for a few quintessential factors like nutrients, light and area for its optimal progress. In case you place numerous plants in the aquarium, each will need to struggle for such pre essentials. This subsequently can cause early death of many aquarium plants.

Another way to boost the health of your aquarium plants is by creating an environment that is similar to its natural surroundings. Placing a tropical plant in cold waters will probably exterminate it. Additionally, make certain that the plants you position in your aquarium are not diseased. Placing a single diseased plant in the tank can have an adverse influence on the health of your other aquarium plants and the fish.

Thus, taking care of an aquarium plant isn’t a difficult proposition at all. By following the above ideas you will be able to ensure health for the plants as well as the fish.

When you bring home a new puppy it’s always an exciting time. Everyone is excited, the puppy, the kids, and most importantly you. Your older dog however, may not be so thrilled.

You woudn’t want any kind of hatred built up between the two dogs, and luckily it’s fairly easy to properly introduce a new puppy to your older dog.

Dogs, even after adapting to living with humans, have a “pack mentality,” where there’s a leader (you), a beta, an alpha, etc. Your old dog is the second in command, the beta, and may feel threatened by the new puppy. You want both dogs to feel equally loved and wanted. This will make the transition much smoother.

Make the transition as slowly as you possibly can. This new home can be very terrifying for your new puppy, and the new puppy can come as a huge surprise to your older dog. Let the puppy sniff and walk around the home. Let the puppy get used to his/her new home. Make sure you stay near the two dogs when they’re together- there may be occasional fights and you need to be there to break them the fights up before they get ugly.

Make sure you spend some good alone time with each dog. This will allow you to effectively have some bonding time with both dogs. Do this sparingly as it can cause jealously among the two dogs. Make sure you play with each dog separately, but also incorporate group playtime where you involve both of them. Once they begin to have fun together you won’t even need to be around to initiate it. Reward each dog for good behavior, especially if they behave with each other during play time.

Once your two dogs develop a strong relationship it’ll be cruise-control from there, you won’t have to work at keeping the peace anymore.

Several different factors influence how healthy a dog’s fur coat is. And most of them are affected by you - the dog’s owner. You can make a difference how healthy your dog’s coat is.

There are several different factors that influence how healthy a dog’s fur coat is.

Some of these factors include:
-	Genetics; Dogs can inherit healthy/unhealthy coats from their blood-line
-	What they eat; Diet plays a huge role in the overall health of a dog
-	Physical activity- Dog’s should get at least 30-60minutes of exercise daily
-	Where they sleep- make sure your dog sleeps in a germ free environment
-	Grooming- Dogs need to be constantly groomed to ensure a fine and healthy coat

All the factors above, excluding genetics, are affected by you the dog’s owner. You can make a difference how healthy your dog’s coat is.

Diet

What your dog eats plays a huge role in the health of their coat, and their overall health. You should always listen to your local breeder’s advice when it comes to diet. Most reputable breeders will give you a diet sheet to follow when purchasing a new puppy- follow the diet religiously and don’t allow your dog to stray from the diet. Most diet sheets will include information on the dog’s diet from birth to old-age.

Dogs are naturally scavengers, so they’re very resistant to food poisoning and are able to eat just about anything. This does not however, mean they should eat anything; dogs should be fed food specifically made for them that will meet all their nutritional needs. Most dogs from the same litter will have similar diet needs. However, there will always be a few dogs in the litter that have special diet needs, and these needs must be met. If your breeder is unable to provide you with a diet that suits your dog well you’ll need to seek professional help from your local vegetarian.

Natural Diet

Some dogs react much better to natural diets than artificial dog food diets. In fact, even if your dog doesn’t specifically need a natural diet, it may be a better choice because of how much cheaper it could possibly be, and how healthy natural diets are for dogs. One example of a very healthy meal that would be consumed on a natural diet would be chicken with some brown rice.

There are many supplements that can be taken by your dog to help improve overall health. Some examples are primrose oil, starflower oil, and flaxseed oil. These oils are especially useful for dogs previously suffering from fleas or any allergy problem which may have cause poor coat health.

Cheese is also a great source of various nutrients for dogs, specifically calcium. Vegetables are just as good and could be given in small portions as treats. Fruits are also great for dogs, but be sure to avoid grapes which are poison to most breeds of dogs.

Most people that own cats don’t think too much about grooming their cats, since they know that they take care of it by themselves, by licking their chests, back or paws.

When the cat has short hair, they usually have no problems grooming themselves, without any help from their human owners. The same can’t be said about Persian cats or other species with long hair.

Besides keeping the cat clean, grooming will also help with the removal of hair which is loose. If you don’t use the comb on the cat’s fur, all that loose hair will go the stomach of the cat. Because digesting hair doesn’t happen with ease, it will usually form hairballs inside the stomach, which the cat will cough up. Sometimes though, they can have health issues because of these hairballs.

You might believe that cats don’t like being groomed by someone else, but they might actually enjoy being brushed. Getting a cat used with grooming is easier if you start doing it when it’s still a kitten.

To groom a cat, comb or lightly brush through the coat of the cat, going from the neck to the tail, by following the fur’s lie. Don’t do it against the lie, since the cat will not enjoy that at all. He might get irritated, and if this happens stop the brushing and help him relax by playing with him for a bit. His paws and face shouldn’t be groomed with the comb or the brush, as he will probably not enjoy that.

If your cat doesn’t enjoy brushing, a grooming glove might be a better fit for her. You simply stroke the cat while wearing this glove, so the bits and dirt from the fur will be removed, just like a brush would do it.

The grooming process should also include checking the ears and the eyes. You should see clean ears and bright eyes, with no discharges. Ear mites are a definite possibility if the cat’s ears are very dirty. If she has ear mites, she might suffer permanent damage to the ears, so take the cat do a vet, to make sure she’s OK.

When the hair is long, grooming the cat can be difficult, especially if the fur becomes matted. In this case, you should just cut the parts that are matted, if the cat lets you do it.

Most people think that cats should take care of their own fur, but a little bit of grooming from their owners can help the cat to avoid potential health problems.

Just like any other pets, dogs must be taken care of, by their owners. They require an investment of time, energy and money. This article will give you some tips on how to take care of your dog. There are about 21 factors involved in taking care of a dog. 11 of them are about the basic needs, 5 about different treatments and 5 about equipment.

Be aware of the dog’s basic needs:

1. The toilet training. Without training dogs can get frustrated and cause a lot of trouble. It is best to train your dog as much as possible. Leaving the dog untrained can represent a problem for himself, for you and for other people.

2. Being around people and other dogs. Do not leave the dog alone for long periods of time. This can seriously affect the dog’s mental health. After 4 or 5 hours by itself, a dog can become destructive.

3. Brush the dog every day. It is very important to do that, especially if the dog has long hair.

4. Pay attention to its teeth and brush them regularly.

5. Take the dog for regular walks.

6. Feed the dog with good food. Make sure the dog has a balanced diet. Only in this way you will keep your dog away from the veterinarian. Instead of giving the dog homemade food, you can serve him quality pet food.

7. Make sure the dog has a lot of water and that the water is fresh and clean.

8. Provide the dog with area for exercises and play time.

9. The dog’s bed must be clean and warm. Change the bed weekly.

10. When you are taking a vacation, leave the dog in safe hands.

11. Make sure you have a good vet that can take care of the dog in case he has problems with his health.

Dog equipment: lead for walking, a bed, blanket, scoop to take the dog waste and a good dog brush.

Treatment needs: regular check-ups with the doctor for fleas and worms, vaccines, teeth checkups and, if required, neutering.

Try to keep all these things in mind when taking care of your dog.

You can also add a dog microchip to locate the dog in various areas. There are dogs that can get lost and it is good to keep track of them. Also, if there are any problems or you simply need an advice, you should go to the vet and explain the issues you’re having. He can advise you on a lot of problems you might have with your dog. Another good idea would be to talk with other dog owners, to get tips on how to deal with your dog.

A dog clothes has many benefits, in many different situations. If you are unsure as to whether or not your dog could use a new wardrobe, read on! Many dogs may not have adequately thick coats to spend significant time outdoors comfortably. Just as we are indoors most of the time, so are the majority of dogs. So, as we put on extra clothing to go outside, our dogs might enjoy the same, too. Dog coats, which are available in many different fabrics, including waterproof, and linings, could be the perfect solution for a blustery day.

There are other advantages of dog clothes, as well. For itchy pets, or ones with allergies, a dog shirt can make the skin less accessible, reducing, chewing, licking and scratching. They can also provide a barrier between the allergens and the pet’s skin, which may reduce symptoms. Also, for humans who are allergic to dogs, shirt traps some of the dander that irritates allergies, and allows it to be washed away, instead of spread on floors and furniture.

Collars for your pet are more than just a canine fashion statement, they are important because they can save your dog’s life when you add an ID tag. Identification tags are the most important item you can add to a collar. These little pieces of hanging metal save countless dogs lives every day. The phone number on that tag enables someone to return your pet to you. Even if you do not put on identification tags, write your phone number directly on the inside of the collar itself with a permanent marker.

When people find a lost pet, they are likely to check the dog collar first. In fact, at the shelter, every collar is removed and checked for any shred of identification. The collar itself is often helpful in identifying a dog. The sad thing is that probably only 1 in 10 stray dogs that end up at the shelter are even wearing collars.

Finally, there are some well established and reputed manufacturers of these dog collars and dog clothes are selling through online. For more information and details, please do not hesitate to visit their valuable website.

Dog clothes to your dog not only gives new look to your but also safety from out door environment and same as the Dog collars do.

Getting started on a worm farm isn’t very complicated. All you need is a passion for recycling and some worm trivia. So here’s some worm trivia that might help motivate and inspire you more with your worm farm venture. How much do worms usually eat? Well, mature worms that can eat up to three times their own body weight on daily basis and for those that are just starting in the world of worms and would like to know how to make the worms eat more and have a lot more productivity.

The answer is simple – shred, mash or blend food scraps as these will give added digestibility and is very easily eaten by the worms. You also need to maintain their bed temperature near 23-25 degrees Celsius since it is at these temperatures that worms enjoy it the most. But stay away from acidic foods as it will screw up their digestive system. Here are some things you’ll want to avoid feeding your worms at all manure, onions, citrus fruits or peelings, garlic, garden waste sprayed with insecticides, dairy products like milk and cheese or meat.

Watering the farm will double the production of the liquid fertilizer but take care not to add too much water into it or the worms will die. Take note that food wastes are nearly eighty percent water and that is released as the worms break them down. So, if water is poured over the system every few weeks or so make sure that you only add enough to ensure the worm bed stays cool and you will have a constant supply of this fertilizer.

You won’t actually be able to harvest the worms since they’ll regulate themselves within any available space and food administered to them. Here are some other questions that you may find yourself asking.

Why is it normal for worms to gather on the lid of the farm when it rains? It’s a perfectly normal response for the worms to act in this manner during rainy seasons to avoid getting drowned. Just take the farm containers to an area where it’s not exposed to a lot of rain and replace the worms back on their bedding.

Why don’t the worms just relocate to the upper level of the tray? It may be because you having added some new food before the worms got to complete the last batch. Worms have an instinct to consume leftover food and won’t seek out for a new food source until it consumes what they already had. Therefore, before adding additional trays, halt the feeding of the worms for around five days to ensure all existing food has been consumed and make certain the level of castings at the tray needs to be placed high enough for the worms to simply pass up to the next tray.

Do worms have the ability endure extremely high temperatures? Worms can tolerate a temperature range between 10-30 degrees Celsius so when the temp is hotter than they can stand, place the farm in a nice shady cool area where it can easily regulate the moisture and humidity of the worm boxes. In especially cold environment’s cover the box with old garments or carpets, blankets and wool shavings to keep it warm. It’s also good to feed the worms at least a quarter more than you should, since digesting more food by the worms allows for more heat to be created inside of them. So use these suggestions and you’ll be well on your way to getting started on a worm farm with confidence.

Canine influenza (or the so called dog flu) is a disease that usually shows up in dogs (just as the name canine suggests). The influenza is caused by a number of viruses like the renowned virus H3N8, which was discovered in 2004.

Many dogs suffer from this disease because they lack the exposure to the virus. The lack of exposure means that many dogs do not have the immune system ready for it and they can suffer a lot. In many regions the illness has spread and caused a high rate of death.

This type of influenza is very contagious and caused the Greyhound race dog fatalities. This happened on a racetrack, in January 2004, in Florida. A number of dogs got infected in Florida, when the virus showed up in the area and a number of dogs got infected at a race track. Also, this virus has been the cause of many respiratory disease outbreaks which took place between 1999 and 2003.

H3N8 is responsible for creating a flu outbreak in New York City in May 2005. The outbreak took place in 10 states and 20 racetracks: Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Arizona, Arkansas, Kansas, Massachusetts, Texas, Rhode Island, and West Virginia. The dog flu was confirmed in approximately 22 US states and affected a lot of dogs. The good thing was that the influenza was not transmitted to cats, people or other pets. The H5N1 (avian influenza) has been the cause of one death, of one dog from Thailand. He got infected after he ate an ill duck.

The influenza A virus also developed one negative single-stranded RNA virus. The H3N8 was transmitted from the horses straight to the dogs.

The Symptoms

Almost 40% of all the dogs that were infected with H3N8 showed mild symptoms. Also, if the disease was treated, the fatality rate was very small. Green nasal discharges and some cough, plus fever, were the main symptoms. The fatality rate is not that big and the shelter population has not been affected as much. The main symptoms were caused by the virus and the secondary ones by the bacterial infections. Also, many dogs developed pneumonia and they died if they were not given the right treatment. Severe hemorrhagic pneumonia showed up as well, and evidence of vasculitis was found.

The Diagnosis

Usually, if an upper respiratory tract infection is detected, than the dog is under the suspicion of an infection. The best test is to submit a serum sample from a dog to a laboratory that can do PCR tests. The results are ready in just a few days and then the proper treatment can be applied.

The thing about dogs is that they are rather like children, so the more you put in the more you will get out. Like small children they need as much love as you can give and a structure in place to not only keep them safe but aware that there are rules to be adhered to in order to function successfully in the world at large.

A new puppy in the home will certainly mean adjustments will need to be made as this little guy will prove to be a delightful handful for the new parents in the home. Remember your new baby will most likely have come from his mother to you so everything will be confusing and a little bit scary as he views his brand new home for the very first time.

Jack, which seemed to be the name that came to mind when you were him carrying home was pretty upset on the first night and you were thinking the pet shop owner should have instructed you in how you could deal with it. You remembered the night your firstborn baby came home from the hospital so bundled young Jack onto the pillow where he remained cuddled all night while you pondered on the big responsibility you now had to make this little guys life an all round happy one. Here we can begin to map out the beginning of helping jack to grow up to be an obedient, well mannered dog. The tips given here will help you on your way as they are proven again and again to work extremely well. Jack will be relying on you to walk him through this world without fear

Jack is beginning to fit in with the family and is a great source of entertainment for all concerned. Most puppies are sold to their new owners from the ages of six to twelve weeks so it is really important that once you get your canine friend home gentle training can begin. Teaching young Jack that your home is not his own personal toilet is merely the beginning. If you have a back yard take him out during the day at timed intervals so he gets the hang of it. If you are inside more give him a permanent place with a dirt box or newspaper that becomes an area he can relieve himself.. Consistency is the name of the game here and time spent here will mean an adult dog that knows the drill.

Biting in any dog is totally unacceptable not to mention dangerous so early intervention is very important. When puppies run up to you and bit your leg or hand at first it is regarded as cute and often humorous. In the litter puppies play quite roughly together and tend to bite each other a lot. This is how they learn to control themselves with each other. When young Jack bites say in a very stern voice “ouch” or “no” until he ceases. Keep repeating this until he gets the message from mum and dad that biting is a bad thing and as long as he does this there will be no fun for Jack. Enrolling him in an obedience class when he is a little older is a must, as he will learn to interact with other dogs and people.

By now Jack will probably have the latest toys from the local pet shop lovingly put by his parents in a basket or box so he knows this is the stuff he is allowed to play with and more importantly chew. If you forgot to do this you may find your favourite shoes or worse still your furniture have been the victim of your best friends playtime. Try to keep temptation away from him by giving him toys to chew on and be consistent again in showing him what you need him to do. He will be wanting to please you so keep at it and he will take it on board and the only thing that will be chewed to bits are his precious toys. It may seem like hard work but every bit you put into Jacks early training will pay off big time and the pleasure you will gain from him, as an adult will be hard to compare. Having a happy, well adjusted dog in your life is a gift and the years of joy together will make you look back and know it was all worth it.

by Dawn

According to veterinary experts, the majority of physical ailments experience by pet dogs are linked to allergies. Unknown to many, allergies can greatly affect the health of pet dogs, causing a host of ailments and illnesses. When the dog is experiencing some form of allergic reactions, it weakens its immune system, causing further health problems for the dog.

Fortunately, there are many early symptoms that we can look out for before the condition becomes hazardous for our dogs. Common symptoms include excessive hair loss, ear and skin infections. If your dog is experience any of such symptoms, it is best to bring it to the vet immediately to receive prompt treatment.

When a dog has a healthy immune system, parts of the dogs body like the eyes, mouth, ears and skin (that are exposed to germs and bacteria) are kept free of infection as the bodys antibodies keep the bacteria under control. When the dog is experiencing some allergies and the immune system is weakened, the increasing amount of germs and bacteria would cause infections and illnesses.

Most dog allergies are made up of a condition known as atopy. This condition is caused by allergens like dust, pollen and other airborne microscopic particles. When this condition arises, your dog would incessantly scratch its ear, tail and armpit, sometimes causing abrasions that lead to infections. Keeping your house (especially your floor and carpet) clean and having a good air purifier will help control this allergy problem.

Fleabites cause another type of less common dog allergy, known as flea allergic dermatitis. Certain types of fleas can cause skin infections and in certain cases cause chronic allergic reactions (such as respiration problems) that can lead to death. To prevent such reactions, bath your dogs regularly with anti-flea shampoo.

Another common type of dog allergy is caused by certain foods. Poultry, beef and corn are some of the most common causes of food allergy among dogs. You should switch to a different type of feed immediately if you find that your dog is allergic to those foods. Compared to atopy, this is a relatively uncommon form of allergy, making up only 5% of all dog allergy cases.

by Todd Martin

At first you will want right dog grooming tools; you will require a small slicker brush and a fine toothed comb. While a puppy is young it is a good idea to brush and comb him on a daily basis. If a puppy is not already familiar with having his nails clipped it is excellent to begin this now rather than waiting and battling a 70 pound dog. Human nail clippers can be used on puppies until they are about 3 months old. These make it easier to eliminate just the tips of tiny nails. Be definite to clip the dewclaws if these have not been removed.

Check your dog’s ears frequently, and even though they do not look dirty, get him familiar with having a cotton swab soaked in a little ear cleaner run around the inside of the ear. Pick up your dog’s lips and examine the mouth. Your puppy will become familiar with being examined and having sensitive parts of his body handled, and you will become skilled at what is usual for your dog, making it easier to spot likely problems prior to they need more serious attention.

How much coat care a mature dog wants will depend on the nature of coat he carries. A greatly coated dog with ample of feathering will call for further upkeep than a dog with less coat and sparse feathers. A dog has to have at least one session of brushing weekly, although some situations require additional care. All sorts of brushes, shedders and matt splitters are available; although all that is actually required are a large slicker brush and a comb.

Areas that need special attention are the feathers of the front and rear legs, the tail feathers and the fine hair just beneath and at the back the ears. All of these areas are apt to matting as a result of scratching, chewing or things getting trapped in the longer hair. Dogs shed their coats twice a year. When this happens will rely on the climate in your area. Once your dog sheds, his fine undercoat is lost all together, frequently in clumps. During periods of shedding you might desire to brush your dog using a dog brush like Little Pals Brush several times a day to maintain the fine undercoat from ending up all over the house and yard.

You can help loosen up the coat by running your hands and fingers all over it, massaging the skin. A few say this helps fuel new coat growth. In any case, it helps to speed the shedding process and is pleasing for the dog.

It is fundamental to keep your aquarium in tip-top condition when keeping marine life and this is one of the most overlooked issues among aquarium keepers. If you are careless and overlook the vital care and upkeep of an fish tank, your marine friends will be very unhappy and unhealthy. Make sure you do daily, weekly and four weekly care necessary for your marine friends as part of your usual house cleaning.

What To Clean Every Day

Here are some daily actions to do to keep your collection of marine friends healthy and happy. Check to see if the temperature is consistent because this is the first step to good maintenance habit for your aquarium. All tropical freshwater fish needs a temperature of round seventy seven degrees to stay well and alive. Algae will grow if too much warmth is present so perform daily checks for unwell or dead fish. Promptly withdraw sick fish from the tank and then check the pumps and filters to see if they are working well.

Weekly Responsibility

Weekly care is essential to preserve the tank clean. To get rid of all waste from the bottom of the tank, use a siphon tube. If you withdraw any water, be sure to replace them to allow the same water level to be maintained.Chlorine and other chemicals must be added weekly to preserve the same level. The water should be tested for ammonia and nitrate levels Weekly – don’t forget the pH test too. Tend to live plants that you preserve, if any, Weekly. If it gets too large, trim them down, then withdraw any sick or dead leaves. Check the tanks for presence of snails. Draw the water snails out from their hiding place by placing a piece of lettuce leaf in the fish tank – if snails are present, they will attach itself to the leaf and you may withdraw them easily.

The Four Weekly Cleaning Routine

What are the monthly care and care procedures for the aquarium? The first thing you need to do is partial water change! Remember, twenty to twenty five percent of the water needs to be withdrawn using a siphon hose. Just be very careful about the chemical content in the water – remember, be extra cautious about the chemical content in the water. Your fish will die if ammonia and chlorine levels get too high. Every month, the filter must be cleaned and the cartridge changed. One secret is, do not clean the filter too well, you will be removing some good bacteria that is actually helping to maintain the chemical level in the water. Try to remove as much algae as possible from the aquarium and perhaps an algae eater will be a good addition to the tank.

Are there sources of warmth near the fish tank? The algae growth in the fish tank will be increased if warmth is available. remove the tank and place it in another area if too much heat is present in the current spot. By keeping to a disciplined maintenance schedule, you can be proud of your colorful brood of fish that will be a part of your life for a long time. A great looking aquarium needs enough care and dedication to sustain. You need to preserve the tank well maintained so that you will be rewarded with a visually appealing collection that is healthy and happy.

Generally speaking, there are two stages that an Eclectus Parrot goes through when it is growing up, and I would like to look at and comment on those two stages in this article.

The first stage to comment on is when your parrot is somewhere between approx. 3 – 6 months old. During this time they like to see just how much they can get away with, and it is during this time that they have got to learn that you are the boss.

You must not let him get away with anything as this will make him think that he is the boss in the relationship. I don’t mean that you must punish him, just be quite firm so that he knows that you are the boss. Some experts have suggested that letting your parrot sit on your shoulder during this time is not a good idea, because physically they will be higher than you, and this may lead them to think that they are the dominant one.

Puberty ” When your Eclectus parrot is about nine months old, he will start going through what is essentially puberty. Just as human teenagers have raging emotions, these birds also have raging emotions, and they look for a way to deal with them. This stage, unfortunately, can last until the bird is about two or three years old.

It can be a difficult time for you the owner, as they do have such mood swings, but just like any teenager, they do grow out of it in time, so you just have to ride the storm for a while.

And the best answer really is a good old fashioned dose of patience. Just be patient with your bird and in time he will grow out of these problems and then you will have the Eclectus you have always wanted.

If you are a dog lover and are looking to purchase a new dog, then chances are that you have invested a lot of time and energy into trying to find the perfect dog breed for you and your family. In most cases the breed of the dog is a huge factor of the value of the dog. This is why when most people are looking for a dog, the breed becomes an important part of the decision.

In the US there are more than 70 million dogs, but the AKC only has 143 breeds of dogs on their list. Even with these figures, making a decision on the right type of breed for a family pet can be extremely stressful and difficult.

The truth is that people have distinct attributes they are looking for in a dog. You can ask any owner of a pet store and they can tell you people are mostly interested in the appearance of the dog. Some people like small dogs, while others like big dogs, so a lot of things come into play when choosing the right type of dog for your family.

While many people are mainly concerned wit the size and looks of the dog, it is very important to also consider the temperament of the dog as well. But, there are many things that you need to consider before you make your final decision on picking a dog breed.

Here are some things everyone should think about first:

How big is your house? People often overlook this attribute when selecting a dog, but the size of the house needs to be a main factor that you need to consider when purchasing a specific type of dog breed for your family. A classic example of this would be if you are living in an apartment then there is no sense in looking a big breed dogs, because there is no way that it will be able to cope living is such small surroundings.

Do you have kids? If you have children then the job of picking the right type of dog becomes even more complicated because if you pick a delicate breed of dog, it will be in danger of the children causing injury to it, and small dogs tend to have a worse temperament with children. But, on the other hand a huge dog can be dangerous as well because of the amount of physical damage they can impose.

How much time do you have? You need to be sure that you have time to take care of the breed of dog you choose, because not all breeds are the same. Many types of breed require more grooming and are harder to maintain than others so be sure to take this into consideration before choosing you pet.

More and more people are choosing a vegetarian diet for their dogs. While one might expect that this choice is the person behind the dog and their beliefs about vegetarianism, in fact there are some benefits to a vegetarian diet for your dog.

by Sarah Mihn

More and more people are choosing a vegetarian diet for their dogs. While one might expect that this choice is the person behind the dog and their beliefs about vegetarianism, in fact there are some benefits to a vegetarian diet for your dog. Some people who ate meat, even to themselves they are feeding their dogs vegetarian diets for health reasons. Others may have great concern about the poor quality of livestock products in many commercially produced, animal feed in meat and avoid feeding their pets bi-products of the meat industry.

Naturally, dogs are omnivores, they require a diet high in protein but thrive on a vegetarian which is based on sources of protein. Legumes of all types, as well as whole grains, can give your dog a good source of protein. If you are comfortable feeding your dog cheese and other dairy products and eggs, maintenance of good health in dogs vegetarian meals will be easy. Most vegetables are well tolerated by dogs, and you can choose to make your own vegetarian dog food and the purchase of dog food commercial. Dogs are usually not particular about their food, however, as with any change in your pet food, a gradual transition is preferred

It may be possible to feed your dog solely vegetarian meals, but this type of diet is not generally recommended for your pet. Your dog’s diet must be well balanced and nutritious to support good health and optimal body function. A completely vegetarian lifestyle may be perfect for you, but difficult to achieve for your dog. A healthy diet should allow your pet to thrive not merely survive. A vegetarian diet dog too often result in a dog that shows signs and indications of a lower quality of health that a dog fed a well balanced diet contain animal products. Your dog’s body requires high amounts of protein. The protein is often through the tissues and bones of animals in nature and, in most varieties of manufactured dog diets.

Some people believe that feeding meat to your dog’s diet is wrong simply because we like to have control of our environment around us, in fact, impose our will on our dogs who really have no other option as are those that bring a home lunch. Given the choice, a dog, no doubt, choose to eat meat instead of vegetables. It is important to remember that even if you think eating meat is “immoral”, your dog has no morals, is an amoral creature who lives his life based on their desires, not good or bad. He eats meat, because it has to eat and it tastes good, not because he believes it is entitled to do so or not. Amino acids are also key to the health of your dog. Only 12 of the 22 essential amino acids can be produced by the body of his dog. The other 10 amino acids must be provided to your pet through your dog’s diet. A vegetarian dog diet has trouble meeting the requirements to allow your dog to thrive under these circumstances.

A vegetarian dog diet goes against nature so to speak, and generally not recommended for dogs. Discuss your situation with a veterinarian will help you determine the best way to achieve their goals in the diet of your pet. Your dog’s diet must be well balanced and nutritious to provide essential nutrients and amino acids to your furry friend. Supplementation can help you reach your goal. Note that both you and your vet want the best for your pet and you will undoubtedly determine a dog diet that works for your family. As with any changes you make to your diet, you want to see your doctor for medical advice. Talk to a professional about the advantages and disadvantages of feeding a vegetarian dog diet to your pet. Depending on your specific plan, he or she may recommend some supplements to add to the prospective vegetarian diet will create a healthy balance for your new furry friend. If supplements are not available to create the healthy and balanced diet your dog deserves, then the two can discuss other options to determine the diet of a dog that works well for your pet and satisfies your lifestyle.

by Dave DeRusset

Owners of ferrets know the importance of having the proper ferret pet supplies. If you are thinking about taking on a pet ferret, before you ever take the step of purchasing a ferret as a pet, you should research the animals to be sure a ferret is a good fit for your household. Then, once you are sure you want to own a ferret, you should begin purchasing the ferret pet supplies you will need. One of the most important ferret supplies you will need is a proper ferret cage.

When you buy your ferret its cage, take into account that your ferret will need some room to move around during play time. Also remember that ferrets can sleep quite a bit. An additional ferret supply you will need to get is bedding material to go in the cage. Your pet ferret will want to have places where it can hide and sleep sometimes. It is your responsibility to provide that in the cage you use for your ferret.

When you are looking to find either a new or used cage for your ferret, go for the best quality you can afford, but don’t miss out on ways to save money. Scanning the classifieds is one option. Asking a local ferret breeder or pet shop about what is available is yet another option. A more modern option that often brings great results is checking online for available ferret cages. Many people selling ferret cages online just want to get the space in their home back, so they might be willing to sell for a nice price.

Your pets ferret cage should be at least twelve cubic feet for one animal. Bigger is great but will add to your ferret supply costs. If you are looking to own more than one ferret, you can find ferret cages with multiple levels and built in features for your ferret’s entertainment. Of course the cost will go up accordingly.

If you are willing to accept a second hand cage, you can probably get a larger ferret cage for your money. Be sure to clean it thoroughly and ask about what was kept in it previously. You might not always get a straight answer, so give the used cage a very thorough cleaning anyway. Just be sure to get rid of all residue from cleaning products before introducing your ferret. They can be quite sensitive to chemicals and you would not want to welcome your new ferret home by getting it sick.

Ferrets can squeeze into some pretty tight places. When you are looking for a suitable ferret cage, make sure that your ferret can’t get itself stuck or hung up inside its cage. Securely closing doors should also be a top priority. You do not want to ever find that your ferret has managed to get free without your consent.

An important consideration for a new ferret owner is how much room is available in their house. Huge ferret cages take up a lot of room. Shoving your ferret into the corner of a laundry room to be forgotten for most of the day should never be an option. Most people also do not want a ferret cage to be the centerpiece of their living room either though. Take measurements and plan ahead before buying a ferret cage.

Ask people you know who have ferret keeping experience for any tips they might be able to offer. They might surprise you and know about an available ferret cage and save you some serious money. Do your homework and you will be able to find your pet ferret a great cage without breaking the bank.

For many people, the discovery of the fact that they are allergic to dogs comes with their ownership of the first pet dog. The most common advice given by doctors is to give the dog away. Although this is no doubt the most convenient way to solve your allergy problem, it is almost impossible to do for many pet owners, as they would have already fallen in love with the dogs. There are also many people who are persistent in keeping pet dogs despite their allergy.

Fortunately, there are many ways to solve this predicament that does not involve giving your dog away. Here are several tips to help you control if not eliminate your dog allergy problem.

1. Some dogs tend to shed more hairs than others. If you are allergic to dogs, it is best to get a dog breed that does not shed hairs as much. These are known as low dander dogs. Poodles and Terries are some example of such dogs. Even if you own a low dander dog, it is important to wash and brush your dogs fur at least once a week. If this proves to be unbearable, you should get a dog groomer or someone else to do it for you.

2. You should also keep your house clean and vacuum the floor at least once a week to get rid of stray hairs. You should also get specialized air conditioners that filter out allergens for the air current.

3. There are certain food supplements and vitamins that can help reduce and control your allergic reactions to dogs. Consult your doctor or your local pharmacist to find out more about these supplements.

4. Although many of us love to let our pets go on the couch and bed, this is generally not a good idea for those who are allergic to dogs. You should keep your dogs off the couch and your bed at all times to prevent allergens from accumulating on its surfaces

5. If all of these tips don’t work, you can take regular allergy shots as your final resort. These shots should keep your allergic reactions under control.

Raw food diet for dogs seem more attractive after the dog food scare in 2007, but your dog eat uncooked food all the time? Let's take a look at the good and the bad side of a raw food diet for dogs.

by Melani Griffin

Raw food diet for dogs seem more attractive after the dog food scare in 2007, but your dog eat uncooked food all the time? Let’s take a look at the good and the bad side of a raw food diet for dogs.

The first thing you have to admit is that in their natural habitat, then the dogs can not cook their food, many people are beginning to awaken to the benefits of eating raw items. The kitchen does not mean that all the amino acids and enzymes are still intact and have not been altered or destroyed by cooking. However, the low then too, all bacteria like salmonella and E. coli are present in food.

Therefore, a raw food diet for dogs is a high nutritional benefit, as long as you do your research and make sure you are getting everything they need in good proportion, but another thing to consider is that these are not the same as the wild dogs that lived only uncooked foods all that long ago. Due to selective breeding then some veterinarians are concerned that some breeds do not have an immune system strong enough to cope with the bacteria found in food that has not been cooked.

Before the market and took over the advertisers in the world of big business, what they eat dogs? We take a look at how the dogs in the wild gain adequate nutrition. A wolf, for example, survives from a kill. The contents of the stomach of the animals they eat first. Doing this, the wolf is in grains and vegetables, as well as, enzymes needed for good nutrition. Then, the wolf devours the meat and some bones. Protein and calcium were added to the diet.

This natural diet in the wilderness has been effective in maintaining quality health over the years. Unlike the dogs of today, these animals tend to have a good immune system. When your dog’s diet consists mainly of unhealthy animals, can not assume that your dog will become unhealthy, as well? Today, veterinarians have more health problems with dogs than ever before. The natural raw diet feeds the immune system of your pet. The diet of dog food contains natural that provide the body what it needs to repair itself and at its best.

Dogs thrive on a diet of raw foods dog. Scientific studies have been conducted to show the difference in health among dogs in a dog raw food diet with some additions and fed with cooked meat, as well as the same nutritional supplements. These studies do not trade, even compared to a dog raw food diet dog food. The studies found that dogs in a dog raw food diet had stronger immune systems, did not have the disease are less likely to be infected by worms and parasites and had a lower incidence of fleas.

Some of these results were surprising, to say the least. However, indicate the benefit of maintaining a natural diet for dogs as much as possible. The raw diet is prepared once a day. It is complicated and not worth the time and effort to ensure the good health of your dog. Always consult your veterinarian before altering your dog’s diet. Raw dog diet has helped many dogs in the fight against health problems such as arthritis, skin problems and weight problems.

Ingredients of the raw diet include meat, vegetables and grains. Approximately half of the diet is meat. Vegetables, fruits, grains, and cover the rest. In preparing the diet of the dog, feed the dog about the same amount of diet raw dog as if it were Kibble. This is a good starting point. From here, you can adjust the diet as necessary to meet the special needs of the dog.Contact a local butcher to purchase ground turkey, for example. Vegetable juices to help digest the enzymes for your pet. This is similar to the wolf consuming the contents of the stomach.

The diet your dog will have a variety of vegetables daily to maximize the potential of the best vitamins and nutrients. Carrots should always be the base change and other vegetables a day. Carrots regularly supply potassium, calcium, vitamin A, B, C, D and E. Greens offer vitamin A, C, and chlorophyll. Apples are good for vitamin C.

Home cooking allows a large amount of control and if you do not want to risk a complete raw food diet for dogs then you can gently cook the meat is juicy, but leave the center, then gently steam vegetables so your dog can hopefully have a nutritious and healthy and bacteria-free food that he or she absolutely love. If you are serious about following a raw food diet for dogs then you need to make sure you do your research first so that your dog does not suffer in any way for failures, talk with your veterinarian the next time you visit to see what they say as well.

Some foods to avoid include broccoli, cabbage and turnip. These create intestinal gas. Cucumbers, onions, potatoes and not well digested in the diet of a dog. Flaxseed is a great addition to the raw material to encourage healthy eating joints and coat. 6 and omega 3 fatty acids help with such conditions. The raw material for your dog’s diet can combat various health problems. The natural diet allows your dog to eat what nature intended. You know what is food in the diet of your dog. The diet is the raw material of high quality and healthy for your pet.

Getting a dog to potty trained can be a difficult and frustrating task. Whether your dog is big or small, a puppy or grown, it can still be done. It is just going to take a lot of discipline on both the dog and the owner’s part. Sometimes a dog will pee on his or her owner’s things to show ownership or dominance.

This is very disrespectful and it can often tick the owner off. But do not think this is the end. This behavior can be corrected with the right amount of time and patience. You dog can become pee pad trained.

The first thing you are going to need to do is to go out and get some pee pads. Set them down over all of the places that your dog usually goes to pee at first. Try this out for a few days while taking your dog outside every time he or she goes to pee anywhere else and telling him or her “no” in a very stern voice when he or she trys to pee other places than the pee pads.

Do not be lenient and give into them after they have peed on the floor. Punish them, tell them that they have been a bad boy or girl. After a few days of having the pee pads sitting out, narrow it down to just one or two pee pads in your chosen area of the home. Your pup will have a good idea that these things are for him or her by now. Dogs usually have to pee every 2 hours or so and directly after eating. Be sure to take a note of his or her potty times and remember to show them to the pee pad at these times.

They are probably going to try to resist for the first couple of days or even for some dogs, weeks. Don’t give up on them, be persistent. Persistence is the main ingredient to getting your dog pee pad trained. If your dog does resist you while trying to pee pad train him/her, be sure to put them in a time out or take them directly outside to pee. Once you have gotten them to pee on the pee pad for the first time, be sure to give them praise.

Do not give them praise very much for other things while you are pee pad training your dog, you want to make certain that while in training, your dog mainly focuses on the times that he/she is getting praise. Your pet will realize that the pee pad is the way to go when getting treats! Don’t be afraid to reward them every time they use the pee pad. This will be good for them, and help to train them easier.

Dogs need to know that we are the boss and not them. Pee pad training your dog is not impossible. Once you have accomplished this, you will have a happier pet, and you will become a happier owner.

The one thing that every dog needs to know how to do is sit. Teaching a dog to sit is probably the easiest trick in the book. If you own a small puppy, it is going to be even easier. An older dog learning how to sit may take a bit more time, but it is possible. Dogs learn to sit by praise. You must first introduce them to what sitting is.

Gently place your hand over the top part of their bottoms and gently push down. Once you have gotten them into the sitting position, sternly and nicely say “sit”. Now, make sure that they have sat and give them a treat for praise. Love on them for a bit and then move on. Wait a while before doing it again because each time you do it, you will be rewarding them for it. You do not want to do it 5 times in a row and wind up having to give them 5 treats!

Using treats while training your dog to sit while help him or her learn a lot easier without too much confusion. He or she might think, “Okay I get it, so when I sit, I get a treat!” So in the beginning, while you are in training, give your dog a treat each and every time that they sit. Oftentimes at first, when you are training your dog to sit, they will exhibit confusion. This is very normal because sitting will be very new to them. Dogs favor routine, and once sitting becomes a part of their daily routine, it will be something that they truly enjoy doing for their owners when asked.

Young puppies are often the easiest to train when it comes to sitting, but this is only because they are so young. Sitting is a simple and easy command that can be taught to any dog. Older dogs may show a bit more confusion that the younger pups, but this is simply because they have gotten into much more of a routine. Do not think for a second that your older dog cannot learn how to sit because they still can. It is just going to take discipline on both the pet and the owner’s part.

If you are having a seemingly difficult time teaching your dog to sit, you may need to go to your nearest library and rent a book on your particular dog breed. Different dogs have different temperments combined with their own unique personalities. What is normal of one dog breed may not be so true for others. There are many things that will factor into whether your dog has an easy time learning how to sit, but most of it will be up to you.

Although you may hate it, there’s not much you can do because aging is a normal process, so that when they finally reached the age with his friend Furrer, the best way that may correspond to many years of company is to ensure that your pet is healthy and happy for the rest of his life. I am sure you have not lost the current fashion about the incredible dog diets to higher animals. But then, you may wonder if the difference between Kibble, highly recommended for older dogs and the regular dog food adult dogs. Well, maybe there is, but if that is true, how do you know that it is time to change your dog to a different diet? The best knowledge base contact for reliable information on your pet, is a veterinarian. You and your pets veterinarian are the two people best placed to meet the dietary needs of pets. Who else does? Let your veterinarian to address their concerns, reservations and questions to your satisfaction. The vet then you advise on measures necessary to make dietary changes and if there is to do, the best way to do it.

There are some varieties of Senior Kibble dog to go a mile away to take care of your dog oral health. The dry type specifically combat plaque and tartar build-up, while the moisture from any address problems with swallowing or chewing your dog may experience. In addition to a diet high dog, the veterinarian may recommend supplements such as glucosamine (for better protection of the joints) and vitamins A, C and E (to facilitate the transition to old age). The health of your dog depends on your diet. Be attentive to their needs, which may change as we age. Do not forget to seek help from your vet to decide what works best for your furry best friend. When your dog begins to age decreases your metabolism and digestion and other metabolic functions. One question that often arises is when should you change your diet dog food for older dogs that is more suitable for them. This depends on the dog’s age and size. Larger dogs live shorter lives and certain breeds live longer than others. For example, a Great Dane or a Saint Bernard and generally only live for nine or ten years when those little poodle dogs and Chihuahuas can live anywhere from fifteen to twenty years.

If your older dog does not have health problems and maintains a healthy weight, there is no need to change your dog’s diet from adult to senior dog food. On the other hand, if your dog has trouble keeping weight or digestive problems, you may need to change. If the weight is the only issue, consider slightly reducing the amount of dog food you give your pet. This can be any change of diet your dog needs. A senior dog is classified as a dog in the last third of his life. Larger dogs, for example, a Great Dane, which are about 9 years old. Around the sixth year of life, you may want to consider a dog diet high level. A poodle, on the contrary will not arrive until the status of senior. About ten years due to increased life expectancy. First, the decision to change your dog’s diet should be based on health status rather than the actual age in years. Your veterinarian will help you determine when is the right time to change your dog’s diet.

Dog food, especially prepared for senior dogs typically have fewer calories. This helps to combat any weight issues. Senior dog food also contains more fiber for the different needs of your dog’s diet. As dogs age, they tend to suffer from constipation. The extra fiber will help to solve this problem. Renal failure can be another medical problem for staff dogs. How can your dogs diet help this problem? Reduce the amount of protein in your dog’s diet will reduce the workload for the kidneys. For this reason, the high frequency of dog food has less protein than regular adult formulas. Whenever possible, allow your dog to eat dry dog food to encourage excellent dental health. Dry Kibble helps reduce tartar and plaque. If your older pet refuses to eat dry food, you may need to moisten it with water or damp purchase conserves varieties.

Glucosamine helps to encourage joint health. For senior dogs, glucosamine can combat arthritis and hip dysplasia. Vitamins C, A and E can prevent the natural aging process and promote better health for senior dogs. Talk to your veterinarian about the addition of supplements to the diet of your dog. You want the best for your pet. Your dog must have a superior diet that meets their special nutritional needs. You and your veterinarian can work together to decide what the best diet for your senior dog. Your dog’s diet directly affects your health. Take care of your pet by monitoring your dog’s diet closely with the help of your veterinarian.

Who else wants to banish the chore of cleaning up after kitty’s business? If you are like most cat owners, you know that cleaning the litter box is about as exciting as dental work. Thanks to an amazing new invention, it is now possible to both keep kitty’s box clean and germ free without the tedious constant chore of scooping and changing litter. An automatic cat litter box can handle all of the stinky work for you. These self cleaning litter pans have many benefits and are especially useful for busy families, the elderly and people with disabilities because they make caring for kitty easy and automatic.

The benefits of using a self cleaning cat box are many. First, you have to consider the odor control factor. If it were humanly possible to scoop up after each use of the litter box, it’s unlikely that you would ever have a problem with litter box smells. Unfortunately, most of us are entirely too busy to follow kitty’s every move and clean up immediately after every trip to the box. The automatic litter box is a tireless creation and most models run around the clock, cleaning waste after every use so you don’t have to. This makes for a significant decrease in smell coming from the litter box and may even make it possible to keep the box in places you otherwise wouldn’t want to.

Although every model is different most self cleaning litter boxes only need maintenance once a week to remove the waste from the storage area. They are typically easy to use and operate. Some brands use ordinary clumping litter that you can buy from any grocery or pet store, but others require you to use proprietary litter. When choosing a box, be sure to note what type of litter it takes as this can be a consideration in the overall cost.

If you are shopping for an automatic litter box, you will have a number of choices. There are different brands and models for every possible need or budget. Most models are designed to accommodate households with multiple cats. Keep in mind that self cleaning boxes are not recommended for small kittens, although they are perfectly safe for older cats.

The only drawback to most leading brands is that they all make some noise as they complete their cleaning cycle. If kitty needs to use the box during this time, they may initially have difficulty using the box with this noise. Fortunately over time most all cats adapt to the box and its noises and functions.

Whats the final verdict on automatic litter boxes? Most people who choose to get one of these boxes say they would never go back to regular litter pans. These robotic helpers can certainty cut down on the work and odor that goes with being a cat owner. Best of all they cut down on odor and bacteria and help you provide a healthy environment for your pet and home.

by Chad Smithson

Anytime you bring a cat into a new environment that could include children or other pets can be a stressful experience for any pet to take in. It is important to understand the not all cats have the same temperament, and a lot of this will come in to play in how well your new family pet will adjust to its new surroundings at the beginning. It is a proven fact that a kitten will make the move easier and adjust better to its new environment that a full adult cat.

The goal of the article is to show you a few tips that will help your new cat adjust to its new living conditions.

The first thing that I would recommend is that you set a place for the new pet that is just for them. It should be out of the way of all the movement in the house. It need to be a place of privacy for the new cat. You will also need to set it up with a place for the kitten to sleep, with a little bed and maybe a pillow.

Next, place the kitty litter box in the room across from the room you made for them. Do not put the kitty litter box in the same room you made for their privacy because cats refuse to sleep anywhere near their litter box.

After that you will want to set up the food and water for the kitten. I suggest that you set it away from the litter box because cats do not like to eat close to it. I suggest placing it on the opposite side of the room.

Once you have everything set up let the cat go in and explore its knew room. This is a great time for you and your kitten or cat to bond as well, and you can begin to work on training techniques with it.

Be sure to let the cat look around and play in the room, and start to get adjusted to the room. If the cat looks sleepy then let it take a nap in its new room, or move the cat to that room when it falls asleep in another room in the house. The goal is to make the cat feel as comfortable as possible in its new living conditions

Allowing the cat or kitten on his or her own to explore the rest of the house or apartment would be beneficial. By leaving doors cracked so they can go explore the home to see the parts of the home that they will be living in. Leaving doors cracked open is something you will want to do, so that the new pet can explore.

After you get your cat comfortable with its new room and home, then you can start to train you cat.

Build the relationship with you cat, and make sure that it is full of love and be sure to have a great deal of patience with your new pet, and you will be off to a great start.

Socializing puppies at an early age can prevent many adult dog behavior problems. Enrolling a puppy in a training school can prevent such future problems as constantly barking, running away, biting, fear of children, destroying items such as furniture, and much more. The best age to enroll your puppy in a training school is 8 weeks. By participating in a training school, your puppy will have the best chance to live a happy and secure life.

During the first sixteen weeks of life, a puppy will learn about the environment around it. A puppy will be exposed to new surroundings and experiences. If not properly socialized, this can be a traumatic time. Early and proper exposure will help a puppy adjust and become confident with new situations. It is important for a puppy to experience new situations and not isolate them so they do not grow up fearful of new places and new people. Fear often results in aggressive behavior such as growling and biting. Without proper socialization a puppy can grow up to be fearful of children, other dogs, crowds, loud noises, and strangers.

From the eighth week and on, a puppy’s brainwaves can be recorded. It is during this period that a lasting bond will develop between owners and their puppies. This is the stage where a puppy will establish confidence, accept gentle correction, learn respect, learn simple responses such as ‘sit’ and ‘stay’, begin housebreaking, and have a desire to explore the world around them. Since 8-week-old puppies have the ability to learn the same behaviours as older dogs, it is essential to teach them proper behaviours at an early age to avoid many years of frustration.

Many pet owners take their puppies to training schools that offer sound training and socialization programs. Some veterinarians advise owners to wait until their puppy is 6 months old and has had all of its vaccinations before taking a training class, however this is not necessary. The chance of contracting a disease from other healthy puppies in a clean environment is very low.

The best training program is one that does not use harsh techniques such as using physical punishment to correct disobedient behavior. A good trainer will use positive reinforcement techniques. The class will be clean and there will be a playtime set aside for puppies. The instructor should also be educated in animal diseases and parasites and should ask for health records before introducing a puppy to the training class. The instructor should also be well informed about such issues as housetraining and puppy biting. When choosing a training class, you should look for qualities that include: a training class that appears fun for the owners and their puppies, the instructor has the ability to meet individual needs, the animals are handled gently, the owners are comfortable with the techniques they are using with their puppies, and the environment is calm, controlled, and safe. The trainer should also be friendly, experienced, and knowledgeable.

When enrolling in a training school, the two most important things to consider are the quality of the training school and the age of your puppy. Do your homework when picking the right school. You can find trainers from a number of sources such as referrals from dog-owner friends, your veterinarian, and dog clubs. Always talk to the instructor before enrolling. You can ask to sit in on a class and watch the trainer.

It is the responsibility of the owner to help a puppy to develop into a kind and well behaved adult dog. If you help your puppy learn and socialize during its critical learning period, you will have helped shape his character and personality. Your reward will be gaining a loyal and loving companion.

Which is the proper dog leash for your puppy or dog? Among so many to select from, preferring a leash for your new puppy or dog can be puzzling. There are actually only a few things you want to know, and as you recognize them, choosing a leash for your puppy or dog is actually quite easy!

The most excellent all-purpose leash is about 4′ to 6′ long and well made. Look for quality stitching, and a material that will not burn or chafe your hands. Leather is superb quality and very long lasting if cared for as it should be. I prefer cotton/synthetic webbing, the softer the better. A 4′ leash will not encourage bad habits. If you follow a pulling dog, that dog will learn to pull. There is no need for an instruction collar or warnings. Any flat collar or harness is okay so long as you are reliable and do not follow a pulling dog. Your dog must if possible walk by your side and not wander off too far from that place; a longer leash lets your dog a great deal freedom.

The fixtures on the end of the leash have to be extremely high-quality. A sturdy snap type fixture is greatest, since it is simple to use and usually unproblematic. If you and your dog spend lots of time at the beach, they will corrode and get stuck with sand regrettably. I had a leash made with a brass diver’s snap. Sand doesnt get jammed in the spring and it does not corrode, on the other hand it doesnt have an extremely sturdy spring and has come undone by mistake. I believe it’s perhaps better to only wash out an excellent quality snap with fresh water and apply a little water dispersant following a visit to the beach.

Cotton or synthetic leashes will have to be washed intermittently, which will to a great extent improve their life. By the same gesture, don’t store them in direct sunlight. The same is correct of leather leashes. An intermittent rub down with leather preservative is all that a leather leash has need of.

If you have a dog who takes pleasure in biting at the leash in that case training can be employed to tame this behavior. I prefer intentionally educating a dog to play tug with the leash like Speedway Designer Dog Leash and putting the behavior on notice, that way I widen control over the actions and can exploit it as a reward for other manners.
